DEAR READERS:
It was so nice to have a nice article in GARY WALKER'S CURTAIN TIME column in the DESERT ENTERTAINER yet again this week. It had a great notice about Sunday's REBECCA SPENCER show and a big picture of JACI DAVIS and a one of DERRIK LEWIS and a nice notice about Jaci's show this Sunday. But I am not surprised as I email a press release and photo for each week's show, weeks in advance that is cut and paste to over 40 publications. In addition to the press, I post the show information, pictures and sometimes a video, to 7 "do it yourself" sites for people looking for things to do and another 8 or 9 Facebook sites. Take brochures to over 30 major hotels, talked to the concierge or front desk at each, plus 4 visitors centers, all the libraries, Koffi's, mailed 25 to each of 60 country club/developments with a letter to the activities director/concierge, (the postage was over $200). THE DESERT SUN regularly includes us as a "Top 5 Things To Do" in their Weekender. I give brochures out at the open mics and the Sunday shows and ask them to take some to give to friends. With all that you'd think it would be standing room only every Sunday. But we average 60 tickets, usually the faithful regulars who ask on the way out "where is everyone, this was so wonderful and for the price, how can you do it?". Well I ask that same question myself and wonder is it too expensive? Is it too far to drive? It's on a Sunday afternoon so it is not because they don't drive at night? Are they all at church? The performers are not household names but for $11 do they expect LIZA or BARBRA? It's not the Annenberg, but the sound good, a nice stage, lighting, a real piano that's in tune, and free wine - okay, it's in a box and you serve yourself. Yes, it's the middle of summer, and there have been days when the air conditioning didn't get under 80, but they now leave the a/c on 24/7 so it is really nice inside. People tell me have I need to buy ads in the papers but to run a 2 by 3 inch ad 1 time is as much as the entire ticket sales. I just feel bad that these very talented performers who've worked so hard are not getting seen by more and making more money. Others might find it depressing, hopeless, and exhausting. But not me. Because I get told 'thank you' all the time and that's why I do it. Now that I got that off my chest...

WOW! REBECCA SPENCER'S show on Sunday was, I can't even think of words grand enough to describe it. To watch her is to watch a demonstration on how to do a cabaret show. Like a Master Class on how to hold an audience, tell a story, use song patter, and especially, "The Art Of The Small Gesture". Something the late JULIE WILSON was famous for, among a lot of other things. And PHILLIP FORTENBERRY... Oh My Gosh! This guy is a frigging genius and leaves you mesmerized, you can't believe you're actually hearing him play live - right there before your eyes. I swear he must have 6 fingers on each hand.  And to think every week, all this talent comes here to be part of this series for almost 6 years! Today I watched the video I took of yesterday's show, it was 1 hour and 25 minutes of flawless entertainment, with the following songs - (taking directly from the printed programs they brought): "Speak Softly Now", "The Girl Who Used To Be Me", "Something In Red", a JERRY HERMAN section: "I Don't Want To Know", "Songs In The Sand", "If He Walked Into My Life" and "Time Heals Everything", a brilliant piano solo by Phillip: "Gett'in Ready Rag" from RAGTIME,  A FRANK WILDHORN section: "Once Upon A Dream", "Anything Can Happen" and "When Autumn Comes", followed by A JEKYLL & HYDE section: "Lost In The Darkness", "No One Knows Who I Am", and "Sympathy, Tenderness". Then Phillip's incredible piano solo medley of all RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN'S greatest songs. Then Rebecca returned with "Eat Drink And Be Marry" by KEITH THOMPSON - who also wrote another song she sang which he wrote for her called "My Life". "The Willow Song",was followed by an ANDREW LLOYD WEBER section with "Superstar" and "You Must Love Me", and they finished with an upbeat, feel good song called "Against The Tide".

This Sunday we have JACI DAVIS & The DERRIK LEWIS TRIO, and hopefully we will have as good of a turn out as they did last year. The show is called "Live!, Laugh!, Love!" I hope it is a full house along with the remaining shows through October 25th.

THREESIXTY NORTH UPDATES...

SURE YOU CAN..

Ideal conditions for doing your work would be simply ideal. But they are not absolutely necessary.

It's great to have all the tools and resources and support close at hand, yet it is not always possible.

But just because conditions are less than perfect, does not mean you have to be less than your best.

In fact, there can be great value in those challenging moments of life and less-than-ideal conditions.

They can challenge you to grow stronger and more resilient, to find a way to do the job even better.

So, give power to your work by resolving to do it no matter what, and succeed in every situation! :)

CALIFORNIA DESERT CHORALE TO HOLD
AUDITIONS FOR ITS 22nd STELLAR SEASON

The California Desert Chorale (CDC) is beginning the build up to its 22nd Season and is searching for serious dedicated singers who are energized to be a part of this growing ensemble. The next audition will be held Monday, August 31 at 7:00p.m, St. John's Lutheran Church, 42695 Washington St. in Palm Desert. The upcoming fall auditions will be administered and conducted by Tim Bruneau, Artistic Director.

California Desert Chorale is comprised of both professional and amateur singers who bring a wide variety of choral and solo experience to the ensemble.  The level of commitment expected is significant and should be carefully considered before auditioning.  Singers auditioning should be prepared to honor the required membership commitments, which include: a weekly Monday night rehearsal from September 2015 - April 2016 with occasional Saturday morning rehearsals. The season is also comprised of two very busy concert week schedules and occasional community service performances.  Potential members should also understand that a portion of the group's concert repertoire is sung from memory, therefore, extra time and effort on your own, outside of the scheduled rehearsals, is required of all participants.

Detailed preparation information and audition requirements is available online at  CALIFORNIA DESERT CHORALE AUDITIONS and each audition will last approximately fifteen minutes.

California Desert Chorale is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization. For more information on how to support and be involved with the CDC, visit the chorale's brand new WEBSITE.

Press inquiries should be directed to Jeff Hocker, Hocker Productions at 760-409-1530 or [email protected].
