THE WHIPPING MAN
By Matthew Lopez
Directed by Martin Benson
Presented in Association with South Coast Repertory
Stage and television star Charlie Robinson (NBC's "Night Court") plays Simon in this Obie Award-winning drama The New York Times proclaimed "haunting" and "powerful." The production also stars Adam Haas Hunter and Jarrod M. Smith.
In the aftermath of the civil war, a confederate captain and his two former slaves are drawn back to the ruins of their once grand estate.  On the eve of the passover seder, they are haunted by their scarred pasts, hit with the reality of their uncertain future, and ultimately drawn together by the strength of family.
Please be advised this production portrays a graphic lifesaving civil war era surgical procedure.

DEAR READERS:
For those who missed it, RON COHN put on another one of his Salon Performances, this one was "Good Times And Bum Times". I got to see it on Friday night and he had a full living room with DENIS MOREEN on the baby grand. Ron kept us all very entertained with a bunch of new songs and about six very funny jokes tossed in amongst the patter - and he's got more energy than guys half his age... I wish I knew his secret. He may be doing it again for my Sundays In Summer Series so you will get another chance to see it then.

Sunday I had to spent working on my Newsletter because on Monday I ran the follow spot for BILL LANESE' cabaret series at VICKY'S OF SANTE FE. Tonight's show starred IRIS WILLIAMS - how is a World-Class performer and I was so thrilled just to be there to see her. Every song was like the best of the best songs ever. Even with the rain it was a full house. There are seats still available for the Tuesday Cocktail Show - see info in the Left side column. If there is anyone who cannot afford a ticket, email me and I might be able to get a comp if you to the $10 food or drink minimum. let me know. Here's a video of Iris singing "I'm Gonna Live Until I Die"

I did make time to get over to THREESIXTY NORTH to catch DARCI DANIELS & FRANCESCA AMARI in their new show "Luck Be A Lady", which is fantastic! It is running every Sunday and will be going on indefinitely. Owner TONY has put together a special 3 course dinner for only $25 in addition to their regular menu, so get there early to enjoy the great food before the great show. Dinner is from 5:30 PM so there is plenty of time to eat before the 7 PM show time.

Also on Monday, I was supposed to be going to San Diego to get an award for my contributions to keeping Cabaret alive at the San Diego Cabaret Awards being held this year at The Cygnet Theatre. I cannot attend but promised I would next year. But there to represent Palm Springs will be FRANCESCA AMARI who is also in the line up of entertainment.

Before I forget, BARBARA WISBEY brought to my attention that last week I misspelled DANA ADKINS name as Dana Atkins. Sorry about that, Dana Atkins is actually a novelist.

WHAT HAPPENED AT
APPLAUSE WEDNESDAYS LAST WEEK:
Another great night last week with a full house and 18 singers including COURT GRAVES "If You Were MIne", PAT MCCANN doing "By Myself" & "Too Soon", followed by ALAN JON with "I Wanna Be Around" & "Till The Twelfth Of Never", then we had RAFE CORRELL to sing "You Are So Beautiful" & "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" and newcomer GLENNON BELL who sang "Think Of Me" from PHANTOM - she is one of DOUG GRAHAM's voice students. Next we had JEAN SORF doing "Begin The Begine" & "Bewitched, Bothered, & Bewildered" followed by BETH FORMELOZA and "Stranger In Paradise" & "Long Ago And Far Away" which she learned just for me. Of course FERDIE FORMELOZA was next and sang "Stangers In The Night" (hmmm, did that plan that, tow 'stranger songs'?) & his other one was "The Nearness Of You". We had another new singer visiting from Saskatchewan, Canada, yes I had to look up how to spell it but his name was ZACHARY BARKER and he also sang a song from PHANTOM, "Phantom Of The Opera" & later "I Dreamed A Dream", and DOUG GRAHAM was next and sang "If Ever I Would Leave You" & "Kiss Her Now", and BRAD SEIPLE wowed everyone with "Bring Him Home", and GEORGE LEWIS came to sing "The Night Is Young" then NONI LAMBERTSON with "Over The Rainbow" & "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man Of Mine" and returning again this week was JULIAN WISE with "I've Got The World On A String" & "Come Fly With Me", then we had PHILLIP STEELE singing "The Saga Of Jenny" with help from the audience on the chorus, & "Let Me Be The One", a very talented BIANNA FINNELL blew us all away with "Glitter And Be Gay" & an operatic piece that I didn't get the title of but it was terrific and she was going to be singing it at a competition on Sunday at College Of The Desert with JOEL BAKER on piano. JASON HULL has been busy with rehearsals for "Love, Valor and Compassion" at Desert Rose Playhouse which I had planned to see today but will have to do it next weekend, anyway, he sang "Colors Of The Wind" & "Say Goodnight" and we also have ROSE MALLETT drop in and sing "All Of Me", you can catch Rose this Tuesday at THE PURPLE ROOM. And that was our incredible night of fabulous talent. Come on over and see us or sing with us this week with JOEL BAKER on piano, bring your sheet music if you have it. PS: dinner reservations are always a good idea.

PS: WE NEED MORE FACE BOOK LIKES ON THE
THREESIXTY NORTH PAGE - PLEASE HELP US AND

WHAT HAPPENED AT AJ'S ON SATURDAY:
This week we had the wonderful RICHARD BERENT who did an outstanding job filling in for WAYNE ABRAVANEL - who'll be back this week. We also had a full house, including the bar area and a total of 11 singers featuring FRED MILLER singing "Night And Day" & "I Only Have Eyes For You", then it was a new singer who found out about us from Beth & Ferdie's Karaoke at MIZELL CENTER, her name was LYNNIE BIERNACKI from Michigan and she was a great singer who did "Sunday Kind Of Love", "Good Morning Heartache", & later "Scotch And Soda". She was there with her husband and they were celebrating their 29th Anniversary and will be here for 3 weeks so look forward to hearing Lynnie next week and also at THREESIXTY NORTH this week. We had another new singer named MATT BORZELLO who did "Nice And Easy" & "Portrait Of My Love", he actually came because he knows Wayne who was out but hopefully he'll be back next Saturday. Our next 4 singers took up a table along with another friend who said he was a singer too but we couldn't get him to, so we enjoyed ALAN JON with "It's Impossible", "Tennessee Waltz" & "Pieces Of Dreams", then it was DOUG GRAHAM with "Gimme, Gimme", & "When The Bells Ring For Me", JACI DAVIS singing "Orange Colored Sky", & "Here's That Rainy Day", then we had PAT MCCANN with "Dearly Beloved" or is it "Angel Eyes", I always forget, then "Darn That Dream" & "Round Midnight" which Alan recorded a video of on his cell phone and you can find on FACEBOOK under his name. Next up we had BETH FORMELOZA and "Come Rain Or Come Shine", "I'm A Fool To Want You", & "I Can't Get You Out Of My Heart", and FERDIE FORMELOZA singing "You're Still You", "The Nearness Of You" & "Fools Rush In", we also had MARGE HARRIS, with a new hair style and singing "Before The Parade Passes By", "Hello Dolly" and a duet with LARRY HARRIS and a medley using "All That Jazz" and "Razzle Dazzle 'Em", and Larry also sang "That's Life". We also had a surprise visit by SASHA SCARLETT to promote "Dinner With The Divas" which is premiering at AJ's this Tuesday with a 7 PM dinner show for $55 with 3 course dinner and 8:30 PM cocktail show for $10 with a 2 drink minimum - check the poster in the left column for more info. The line up of "ladies" who'll be appearing looks quite amazing, so make reservations now or they will be back I think it's the last Tuesday of each month as well as a special Easter Day Brunch. Okay everyone, that is it for all the news. Please make reservations to come for dinner or drinks and see us next week with WAYNE on piano for CABARET ON THE GREEN.

The Season is really picking up so be sure to make those reservations for dinner, the food is amazing.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

SOPAPILLA CHEESECAKE BARS
Simple, and simply delicious

INGREDIENTS:
2 cans (8 oz each) Pillsbury™ refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS:
Heat oven to 350F.

Unroll 1 can dough. Place in bottom of ungreased 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish. Stretch to cover bottom of dish, firmly pressing perforations to seal.

In medium bowl, beat cream cheese and 1 cup of the sugar with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Beat in vanilla. Spread over dough in baking dish.

Unroll second can of dough. Carefully place on top of cream cheese layer. Pinch seams together.

Pour melted butter evenly over top. Mix remaining 1/2 cup sugar with the cinnamon, and sprinkle evenly over butter.

Bake about 30 minutes or until center is set. Cool slightly, about 20 minutes. Refrigerate for easy cutting. Cover and refrigerate any remaining bars.

CLASSIC TV CLIP MOMENTS:
This is a very short clip from a real classic, TOPPER, starring EDWARD G. CARROLL as Topper, and Anne Jeffreys & Riobert Sterling as Marion & George Kirby, the ghosts that haunt Toppers house. They were actually married in real life and a made for perfect casting. If there was every a TV show that should be redone, this is it. Think of all the great things they could do with today's special effects.

THE MANY BENEFITS OF LEMONS

Amazing frozen lemons.  Yes, all it is a frozen lemon. Place a lemon in the freezer. Once it is frozen, get your grater, and shred the whole lemon (no need to peel it) and sprinkle it on top of your foods: vegetable salad, ice cream, soup, cereals, rice, sushi, fish dishes, whisky, wine.... you name it.

The food will have a wonderful taste, something you've never tasted before. Amazingly, lemon peels contain
10 times more vitamins than the juice. They are health rejuvenators and help to eliminate toxins in the body.

Lemons also help to fight cancers. They are 1000 times stronger than chemotherapy, work against bacterial
infections, help to regulate blood pressure, aide in digestion, and combat stress and nervous disorders.

The source of this information comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the world. Many tests since
1970 have shown that lemon peels are 1000 times more effective than Adriamycin, a drug normally used to
shrink tumors. More astonishing: lemon peel extract destroys only bad cells but does not affect healthy cells.

So, give those lemons a good wash, freeze them, and grate them over your favorite foods.

Your body will reward you with a gift of good health. :)
