BE SURE TO READ BOTH
"WHAT HAPPENED AT" BLOGS TODAY FOR SOME EVERY IMPORTANT NOTES!
DEAR READERS:
CLIFFORD BELL came to the Arthur Newman Theater recently and interviewed me for his CABARABIA Web Show on Global Voice Broadcasting. Take a look: LES ON CLIFFORD BELL'S CABARABIA WEB CASTON A PERSONAL NOTE: I had been working on today's newsletter since 1 PM but took a break and went with Rick to RUBY'S DINER for their once a year Ruby's Birthday deal when they cut the price of the Classic Burger with fries by 50% so it was only $4.49 and I always add their Iceberg Wedge for $2.99 more and it is the best one in town with a ton of bacon bits, red onions, and crumbled blue cheese - but I get mine with 1000 Island dressing. So I came home to finish up with a another 3 hours or so to go but I just checked my email around 10 PM and there was one at 8:36 PM from a friend. I will not mention their name but only say they were "upset that I had mentioned everyone in the audience" (in my Facebook post late last night regarding Jerome's show) "and that they find it hurtful that I left them out". I wrote them back how sorry I was and that it was not on purpose. Do I think they intended for their email to upset me or wanted to be hurtful? Not at all. A lot of you may not know that my first newsletter using Constant Contact was in June 2007 and I've done over 800. Before that I did them from my Yahoo email account for 5 or 6 years. I mess up on the Open Mic singers and what they sang all the time but know one usually says anything. And most people think I get paid for all these 'ads' in this newsletter - but I get very few 'donations'. Or that the expense and time it takes to do it would blow your mind. Or how many people send me show info without so much as a picture, so I go ahead and design a simple flier using a picture off the web just so there is something decent to post, then I email it to them, wish them a great show and say feel free to use it - and they do. I used to hope they would PayPal something, but it hasn't happened yet. Some might find this too thankless and unappreciated - but I get a lot of joy and pleasure from designing them, from publishing this newsletter, doing the open mics, and presenting the shows at the theater. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of 'that-a boys' to get me through the day. So just know that I am not the kind of person who'd ever do or say anything to intentionally upset or hurt anyone. Now back to finishing this newsletter - it's 11:45 PM and I still have all the Videos Of The Week to find and post and the recipe too, then I am off to bed hopefully by 2 AM. Update: I was right, it's exactly 2 AM and I just finished. Good night everyone.
APPLAUSE WEDNESDAYS LAST WEEK: It was a very humid day so we were pleasantly surprised at the nice turn out including DONNY TEETERS doing "Waltz for Debbie", "The More I See You", & "I Wish I Didn't Love You So", and LINDSAY OUELLETTE who sang "Hey There", "On The Street Where You Live" & "Make Someone Happy", JEAN SORF singing "My Foolish Heart", "Fly Me To The Moon", & "Night And Day", JASON HULL got there early this week and did "But You Know I Love You", "We Just Disagree" & "Every Road Leads Back To You". Next we had RAFE CORRELL who did "So In Love" & "Love For Sale", BETH FORMELOZA doing "Don't Cry Out Loud", "Come In From The Rain", & "Through The Eyes Of Love" followed by FERDIE FORMELOZA and "I'm A Fool Without You", "It's Impossible", & "Can't Help Falling In Love With You". Then PHILLIP STEELE returned after an absence to sing "Miss Otis Regrets", "Mack The Knife" & "September Song", JACI DAVIS did "Our Love Is Here To Stay", & "Can't Help Loving That Man", LU RECTOR did a new one "You Make Me Feel So Young" & "Maybe If I Sang Cole Porter" followed by JUDI RUSSO with "You Go To My Head" & a comedy song called "Good Thing He Can't Read My Mind". We also had COURT GRAVES who sang "Orange Colored Sky", "Unchained Melody" & "Theme From Valley Of The Dolls". And on my list I wrote down "Here's That Rainy Day" but I am not sure exactly who sang it? Possibly Rafe? Oh well, that was it for the night. IMPORTANT NOTE: Just a reminder that BIANCA RAE is coming this week with a videoographer to do a story on APPLAUSE WEDNESDAYS for EYE ON THE DESERT so if you want to sit at a table I would recommend making a reservation with best seats going to those having dinner, but you are welcome to join us for drinks as well, like our very own APPLAUSE-ATINI made with Cherry infused vodka with Orange & Cranberry Juice.
PS: WE NEED MORE FACE BOOK LIKES ON THE THREESIXTY NORTH PAGE - PLEASE HELP US AND
WHAT HAPPENED AT AJ'S ON SATURDAY:
Boy with all the other things going on around town we were very happy to have a nice turn out on Saturday night with some wonderful singers like ANTONIO RICO doing some Disney numbers "Friend Like Me" from ALADDIN & "Hakuna Matata" From LION KING. Next up we had JEROME ELLIOTT whose show on Sunday the next morning was a huge success with the sale of 100 tickets, but for this night he sang two songs not in the show, "Come Rain Or Come Shine" & "The Shadow Of Your Smile", with him was LU RECTOR who did "Sooner Or Later" from DICK TRACY & "You Can Always Count On Me" from CITY OF ANGELES, then we had RAFE CORRELL to sing a medley: "Day In, Day Out" with "Day By Day", then "You've Changed", "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue", & "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life". BURC LANDER was our next singer who gave us "Some Enchanged Evening", "I Wish You Love", & "If Ever I Would Leave You". New singer CLAUDIA THOMPSON, whose been working on songs privately with Joel, came for dinner with 3 friends and sang "Here's That Rainy Day", "Come In From The Rain", "When Sonny Gets Blue" & "More Than You Know", she is really good and will hopefully be one of our regulars. Later in the evening one of her friends named DAVID sang "Another Hundred People". FRED MILLER was there to sing "The Very Thought Of You", "Night And Day", "Don't Blame Me" as a duet with his alter-ego voice which is hysterical, and "S'Wonderful". In the Splash Lounge Bar there was a group and one of the singers got up to sing "Luck Be A Lady" and ROY PROVENCE returned again this week and sang "The Nearness Of You", "The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning" & "I Took A Trip On A Train". LINDSAY OUELLETTE came in later and sang "The More I See You", "Just In Time", & "Cry Me A River" and really much later TONY came by for a drink and to sing "My Funny Valentine". Well I hope I got everyone in and there songs correct, if not that's okay. IMPORTANT NOTE: ART & JOHN (aka AJ) will be on vacation along with the staff at AJ'S ON THE GREEN for the month of August. So our next Cabaret On The Green will be on SATURDAY, AUGUST 30th. There is also a chance we will be moving to another night of the week there but we are not sure when, what day, or even if, but as always we will keep you posted via this Newsletter, emails, and Facebook.
AJ'S NOTE: There is a HUGE parking lot just past the front lot on your left. Remember to make reservations and see you next time.
SUNDAYS IN SUMMER CABARET SERIES
Wow, is about all I can say about JEROME ELLIOTT's show "Up In Flames" last Sunday. I only had 105 seats set up and it's a good thing because we sold 100 tickets.
This week we have....
Jack's career took off when he was cast in a film shooting in Italy that led to changing his stage name to 'Hunt Powers' and 21 films that included starring in 17 'Spaghetti Westerns'. Upon his return to the US, and the name, Jack Betts, he spent time in New York City studying his craft while performing on Broadway. Back in Hollywood, he has guest starred on dozens of TV series and TV movies as well as recurring roles on TV dramas, sitcoms, and 5 soap operas. On the big screen, Jack has had featured roles in such films as Spider-Man, Falling Down, 8 MM, and Gods And Monsters, where he portrayed Boris Karloff. Jack is also very active in several charities and rallies to the causes with many of the stars with whom he's worked, including Doris Roberts. He and Doris meet when Jack was a guest star on Everybody Loves Raymond, becoming fast-friends and to Doris directing one of Jack's many plays, Screen Test, Take One. JACK sings "My Attorney Bernie" PS: Planning to be in the audience are: ELENA MARIA INFANTINO, PHIL CROSBY JR. CHRIS BENNETT, JACK JONES, & DORIS ROBERTS to name just a few. (now after going but up to the top of my blog and writing about leaving someone out - maybe I should not have listed these 5 people - just kidding!)

BROADWAY AND CABARET FEATURED SINGER OF THE WEEK:
I got the nicest email from
CYNTHIA CRANE last week, thanking
me for posting one of her videos. So I am posting another one written by another friend whose work I adore named ALAN CHAPMAN (I also adore his wife, KAREN BENJAMIN).
The song is "Concrete Is The Answer"
with PAUL GREENWOOD on piano and BOOTS MALESON on bass & vocals.
Watching Cynthia perform is like a lesson in how to do cabaret. She can almost tell you the song with only her gestures. Watch & learn. Also check out some of her other, more serious Youtube videos. For years Cynthia published her own on line cabaret newsletter called "Crane's Clarion" until 2013. You can see it HERE.I also received a nice complement from DONALD SCHAFFER who saw Cynthia was last week's video and told her... "like this man ALOT! He goes out of his way to help all of us!" Not bad from someone who is one of the best when it comes to on line publications. Check out his NITE LIFE EXCHANGE. There are sections there on Theater, Cabaret, Jazz and more!

THE WORLD YOU LIVE IN
"Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. " - Mother Teresa
* * *
There are many people in this world who would love to have what you have, to know what you know, and to live the way you live.
Don't let yourself become so accustomed to your many blessings that you discount them. There is enormous value in your life, and many great things you can do with it.
Real gratitude goes beyond just thinking thankful thoughts and saying thankful words. The power of gratitude comes when you make good and meaningful use of all those things for which you're thankful.
You have been entrusted with many gifts and talents of great value. Your task is to find joy and fulfillment in sharing them with others, and making them into even greater value.
Enjoy the good things that you have, and then go beyond the enjoyment. Expand, share, multiply and utilize them as best as you possibly can.
Let your achievements set the stage for new achievements. With thankful heart and loving actions, create an upward spiral that brings even greater value and joy to the world you live in. :)

BOOKS ON BROADWAY BY MEL ATKEY
|
"My goodness, it is brilliant." - Koop Kooper, host, - "Cocktail Nation," Sydney, Australia
"Laura Ainsworth has not only met the incredible standard set by her debut recording but surpassed it..." - Eric Harabadian, Jazz Inside
"Ainsworth segues in and out of moody ladies in love, like those in a Barbara Stanwyck film festival...Whether hilarious or heartfelt, Ainsworth packs a pistol & the goods & should make waves with this new release." - John Hoglund, Cabaret Scenes
"Reminiscent of those classic Verve, Capitol or Columbia albums of the 1950's, but equally, it is so vintage 2013, you just need to grab a copy and listen." - Richard Irvine, 87.7-FM
"Laura Ainsworth is an exceptional singer, full of grace and color in her interpretations. Her ability to express the elements of the most classic jazz is incomparable; she is able to subtly display sensuality, darkness, romanticism, naughtiness, and feeling. 'Necessary Evil' is a smart & brilliant contribution to the world jazz scene" - Oscar Montagut, WorldMusicReport
"Delightful...Snazzy and jazzy...Charming and genuine... Recalls big band clubs in many a black-and-white film airing on TCM...Magically transporting to an era far gone..." - Kevin Thomas, Dallas Voice
"As sweet-voiced as a meadowlark crossed with a hummingbird...The kind of gig Mae West would uncork champagne to and then sit back in brocade and rhinestones... - Mark S. Tucker, AcousticMusic.com
