DEAR READERS: SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:
IMPORTANT UPDATES RE: BRING YOUR DANCE SONGS TO APPLAUSE WEDNESDAYS ON DECEMBER 3rd.
Sadly, the group of 40 that planned to come has unfortunately had several members who were involved in a fatal car accident. It is still uncertain if they will cancel their plans. We will update you next Monday.
OPEN CALL ENTRIES ANNOUNCED, DO YOU HAVE YOUR DVD TO SUBMIT? I know many of our singers would like to submit an entry for next year's competition and may need a DVD to send in before the January 5, 2015 deadline. So I am offering to bring my digital video camera to Applause Wednesdays on DECEMBER 10th & 17th. So bring your best songs and I will film those planning to enter and put your performance on DVD. Please read the rules in the notice in this column below in the McCALLUM THEATER box. Considering the time and cost of materials involved I am only asking for you to give me whatever you feel it is worth or you can afford. CALLING ALL CABARET SINGERS:Your voices and personalities are needed for "Caroling For A Cause" on Sunday, December 21st. Meet up at THREESIXTY NORTH at 4:30 PM for Hot Chocolate, then sing and stroll down Palm Canyon Drive with stops at local establishments seeking donations for WELL IN THE DESERT. Dress in your Holiday Attire - song sheets will be provided.
APPLAUSE WEDNESDAYS LAST WEEK:
Once again, guest upright bass player TIBOR LESKO joined us along with our singers who were newcomer from LA, EVIE FIORANDE who used to come and sing at my open mic there so long ago, she sang "Fly Me To The Moon", "Some One That I Used To Know", & "Cabaret", then DONNY TEETERS sang 2 show tunes if you can believe it, "Almost Like Being In Love", "Once Upon A Time" & "Because Of You", then visiting from the Bay Area we had BOB VISINi who sang "Our Love Is Here To Stay", RUSS ROOF singing "Come Fly With Me", & "I Left My Heart In San Francisco", and WINETTE ROOF doing "When I Fall In Love" & with Russ, "Sentimental Journey", and RAFE CORRELL doing "Taken A Chance On Love", "How Deep Is The Ocean", & "Speak Low", then BETH FORMELOZA with "Don't Blame Me", "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do", & then a real treat, "You Don't Send Me Flowers Anymore" as a duet with JOEL BAKER as NEIL DIAMOND, it was a crack up and they promise to do it again soon and earlier in the show. Then we had FERDIE FORMELOZA singing "The Nearness Of You", "This Love Of Mine", & "What Kind Of Fool Am I", and PHILLIP STEELE with "Pirate Jenny", "Cry Me A River", & "My Ship", followed by COURT GRAVES and "Don't Worry About Me", "Night & Day", & "I've Grown Accustom To Her Face", then JASON HULL singing "Ain't No Way To Treat My Baby", "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", & "If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Right", and BILL who we have not seen since BLAME IT ON MIDNIGHT singing "I'll Be Seeing You". So That was it for another great night. Come out and see us this week for a great night of live entertainment with JOEL BAKER on piano, and some great food. Reservations are always welcome. See you Wednesday.
PS: WE NEED MORE FACE BOOK LIKES ON THE THREESIXTY NORTH PAGE - PLEASE HELP US AND
WHAT HAPPENED AT AJ'S ON SATURDAY:
It was a bit slower than usual but still a lot of fun with some great performances by RON COHN doing "Too Old To Die Young", "Don't Wait Too Long", & the very fun - and long, but that is what helps make it funny, "How Could Red Riding Hood Be So Dog Gone Good", next it was FRED MILLER who's really enjoying singing with WAYNE ABRAVANEL and trying new styles with "I Only Have Eyes For You", & "Blue Skies", then MARGE HARRIS sang "Wouldn't It Be Loverly", "The Tennesee/Tennis Shoe Waltz", "Music, Music, Music", and with LARRY HARRIS they did "Somewhere My Love", and "Hello Dolly" with JOHN as CAROL CHANNING & LOUIE ARMSTRONG, and they also did "Kid Will Eat Ivy Too", LARRY HARRIS also gave us "You're Just Too Good To Be True" & "ON A Clear Day", followed by RAFE CORRELL and "You'll Never Know", "All My Tomorrows", "& "Younger Than Springtime", then GEORGE LEWIS doing "I Am In Love" & "Earthbound", next we had ROSANNE HOPKINS giving us "Close To You", "Masquerade" & really got us going with "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown", then it was COURT GRAVES and "That Old Black Magic", "It Never Was You", "Begin The Beguine", Night And Day", & "Orange Colored Sky", and coming in later was TONY DI SIENA to sing "My Funny Valentine". We had a number of couples and groups come in that had heard about the great entertainment we have on Saturday nights and CABARET ON THE GREEN and even though we had fewer singers, they said they were very impressed and can't wait to come back again and again. So come on all you singers, let's give them a show...! Reservations for dinner and to secure a great table are recommended.
AJ'S NOTE: There is a HUGE parking lot just past the front lot on your left. Remember to make reservations and see you next time.

BOOKS ON BROADWAY BY MEL ATKEY
|
"My goodness, it is brilliant." - Koop Kooper, host, - "Cocktail Nation," Sydney, Australia
"Laura Ainsworth has not only met the incredible standard set by her debut recording but surpassed it..." - Eric Harabadian, Jazz Inside
"Ainsworth segues in and out of moody ladies in love, like those in a Barbara Stanwyck film festival...Whether hilarious or heartfelt, Ainsworth packs a pistol & the goods & should make waves with this new release." - John Hoglund, Cabaret Scenes
"Reminiscent of those classic Verve, Capitol or Columbia albums of the 1950's, but equally, it is so vintage 2013, you just need to grab a copy and listen." - Richard Irvine, 87.7-FM
"Laura Ainsworth is an exceptional singer, full of grace and color in her interpretations. Her ability to express the elements of the most classic jazz is incomparable; she is able to subtly display sensuality, darkness, romanticism, naughtiness, and feeling. 'Necessary Evil' is a smart & brilliant contribution to the world jazz scene" - Oscar Montagut, WorldMusicReport
"Delightful...Snazzy and jazzy...Charming and genuine... Recalls big band clubs in many a black-and-white film airing on TCM...Magically transporting to an era far gone..." - Kevin Thomas, Dallas Voice
"As sweet-voiced as a meadowlark crossed with a hummingbird...The kind of gig Mae West would uncork champagne to and then sit back in brocade and rhinestones... - Mark S. Tucker, AcousticMusic.com
