JOIN ME IN PRAYING for all the children and workers who will be here this next Monday through Thursday for VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL. This year's theme is CARRY THE TORCH! Good things happen when kids are exposed to four days of fun and Bible Study. Each year several dozen of our older children come to know Christ as their personal Lord at VBS. It's going to be a great week and I can't wait to be a part of it! HAVE YOU MEMORIZED the nine fruit of the Spirit yet? During this series, GRACE-FRUIT: Jesus Living in You, we're examining the nine character qualities that the Holy Spirit desires to display in your life. If you like lists, this is a great one to memorize. Try grouping the fruit in three clusters of three: - LOVE, JOY,PEACE, - PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, - FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, SELF-CONTROL. SUMMER IS A TIME FOR CAMPS at GABC. In addition to our active Day Camp Ministry, our Middle School and High School groups are heading off for camps. Middle Schoolers, I encourage you to sign up for "Wired" June 20-24 in Brownwood, Texas. High School students, ENGULFED is the theme of your camp at Panama City Beach July 15-20. This can be a life-changing experience for you and your friends, so be sure to register today! I'LL BE LEADING ANOTHER group to Israel, February 2013. If you'd like a brochure explaining the details of the trip, stop by the Bethany Suite after worship Sunday morning, or call Arlene at 903-525-1118. The first question people ask is, "Is it safe?" Ask someone who has traveled with me before. Also, consider that each year there are several million Christian tourist who visit Israel, and there has never been a single incident in which a member of a tour group has been harmed. The most dangerous part of the trip is the bus ride to DFW! Lovejoypeacepatiencekindnessgoodnessfaithfulnessgentlenessself-control! Pastor David |
Sunday Morning Bible Study
8:15 & 9:45 a.m.
At Green Acres, we believe it is vital for EVERYONE to study the Bible in relationship with other believers -- children as well as adults. If you haven't found YOUR unique place in SMBS, the beginning of this New Year is the ideal time to start. Check out the SMBS Guide, or begin with the SMBS Finder. There is a place for you in Sunday Morning Bible Study.
Celebration & CrossWalk Worship
9:45 & 11:15 a.m.
This Sunday morning the Pastor begins a sub-series in the study, "Galatians: Don't Stray From the Grace-Way." The new sub-series is "Grace Fruit: Jesus Living in You." LAST WEEK I PROMISED I'd be back with more opportunities for your summer. Here are some special activities for the younger members of your family. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, for age 5 through 5th grade, starts MONDAY MORNING, and continues through Thursday morning this week. If you've been paying attention, you already know that the theme of the week is "Carry the Torch!," and our special guests include two Olympic medalists. As always, it is going to be a wonderful week of learning and fun for our kids. If your children (or grandchildren, or neighbor children, or any other children you know) would like to join the 1,400+ kids in this VBS adventure, and yet they are not yet registered, just be sure they are here a little before 8:00 a.m. Monday morning so they will be ready when the fun starts at 8:30 a.m. IN ADDITION, SUMMER DAY CAMP starts at the Family Life Center on Monday, and continues for six weeks through the summer. The first week is a special VBS/Day Camp combination, so kids who are looking for a full day of activity can participate in both. Then, each following week focuses on a unique theme (you'll see them listed in the Recreation Section of this Sunday's bulletin). If you are looking for a week - or several weeks - of outstanding activity for your kids this summer, Day Camp may be just what you've been looking for. IF YOUR KIDS ARE OLDER, I can highly recommend the activities provided by the One-Ten Student Ministry and our Student Music Ministry. Check out the calendar in the center-fold of the Summer Surveyor, and you will see a whole "mob" of summer activities for students. If you must choose, I suggest looking first at Middle School "Wired Week" Camp, June 20-24, and High School "Engulfed" Camp, July 15-20. Both of these camps are designed not only to offer great fun, but to challenge your student to grow in their faith. Ken Warren Senior Associate Pastor kenw@mail.gabc.org |
"I Love America" 2012How You Can Help
|
This July, as part of our annual I Love America celebration, the GABC Worship Ministry is offering a practical way to assist those who have given themselves in defense of our freedom. The Andrews Center of East Texas, is expanding its efforts to support homeless veterans by opening a series of homes for them in Texas.
The Andrews Center efforts were highlighted over the Memorial Day weekend in a feature by KYTX CBS-19 television, "A Special Memorial Day for Homeless East Texas Veterans." You can join the effort to assist these veterans as a part of our I Love America celebration, July 1 & 2.
There will be a table in the Foyer following our I Love America performances where you can get additional information about specific ways you can help. In the meantime, there are ways you can help NOW. Here are a couple of suggestions.

The Mystery of God's
- Charles Swindoll
I now believe that God's will for us in this life is not some black-and-white objective equation designed to take us to an appointed destination here on earth as much as it is the journey itself. It is not so much about our own well-thought-through "mission" for our lives as it is about what matters to Him in our lives.
Our human tendency is to focus solely on our calling-on where we should go, how we should get there, and what exactly we should do about it. God's concern is the process that He is taking us through to mature us and ready us, making us more like His Son, In other words, all of us-including you-are works in process.
|
Romans 8:29-32
- The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun.
So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? |
