A Message from Our Interim Rector

"Putting Jesus First?"

Don't think that "putting Jesus first" in your life means putting religion first. Jesus came to teach us a way that leads to "life more abundantly." Religion is meant to serve life; life is not meant to serve religion.

Jesus is the ultimate pragmatist: he models what humans need for people to live together successfully. We put him first when we choose to live in ways that make the best in us and other flourish.

What are your most important goals in life? Which of those aims would Jesus love? How do they help create good in the world, for you, those you love, and those around you?

In the next few weeks, sermons will explore how Jesus leads us to "choose life" in the best way.
Bishop Beckwith's Visitation,  June 18

When our Diocesan Bishop Mark Beckwith spent  Sunday  morning at St. Peter's on June 18, he not only preached and celebrated at both services, but engaged both congregations in a time of conversation about being the church in a time of profound social change. He applauded St. Peter's long-standing relationship with the local community through The OpShop, Nursery School, Street Fair, and other outreach ministries.

At lunch with the Vestry, what Vestry persons value about St. Peter's was discussed, as well as the ways the parish is beginning to turn outward in renewed strength after a time of necessary focus on internal matters.

The Bishop predicted that priests searching for a new position would find St. Peter's "highly desirable," and that we would receive a number of resum├ęs.

This was Bishop Mark's last formal Visitation, as the search for his successor is now proceeding, with a consecration date for the new Bishop set for September 2018.
Welcome Pam Bayard to the Vestry

Congratulations, Pam Bayard! Pam, who was chosen as our Alternate, has been unanimously elected to complete the term of Caroline Medina on Saint Peter's Vestry.

Caroline Medina continues to recuperate and will be moving to live closer to her family.

The position of Alternate on the Vestry is an important one for just such instances, and is now vacant. Please call upon God's spirit to help you discern if you are being called to serve on the Vestry.
Cowells Honored with Hegg Award

On Sunday, June 11, David & June Cowell were honored with the David P. Hegg II Lifetime Achievement Award. The Hegg Awards are given annually to members of our diocese who are  long-standing, active members who have made  contributions to the congregation and/or the diocese.

Congratulations June & Dave!

St. Peter's Search Process Moves Ahead

The call has gone out through the posting of our Parish Profile with the Diocese, inviting prospective candidates for our new full-time priest position to send us their resume. The Search Committee will meet monthly through the summer and hopes to begin the initial round of interviews in the early Fall, and issue a call before year's end.

Please hold the committee in your prayers as they sift through resumes, conduct interviews and select candidates to present to the Vestry for decision.

Street Fair Thanks
streetfair12

To all who hammered, hauled, stood for hours, picked up balls, carried, fed people, sold tickets of all types, donated food, books and those amazing Tricky Tray baskets ... to those who came to the Fair, brought friends and relatives ... and to all those in between ...

Thank You!!

It was a hugely successful Street Fair and we couldn't have done it with out everyone's help. It was truly St. Peter's at its best!

Peace & Love,
Your Street Fair Committee

If you were one of those wonderful people who put out a Street Fair lawn sign please return it to the church office porch so we can re-use it for next year :)  Thanks!
Sunday School

Although  Sunday School & Family Church will be on break for the summer, children are ALWAYS welcome in "big" church so I hope to see you all during the summer! Please consider helping with these important ministries next year.  If you have any questions reach out, I'd love to talk to you!

With Faith & Love,
Dana Leach

Nursery Care
Nursery Care will continue to be available for children 3 and younger through the end of June, then will take a break for July and August.  Michelle & Ann will be back again after Labor Day to care for our littlest parishioners. The little ones are always welcome in "big" church, however :)

With Faith & Love,
Dana Leach
Ornament of Lost Coin Window

A replica of the window dedicated to Mother Stephanie last week will be available on a Christmas ornament, and proceeds will be divided between the parish and a purse for Mother Stephanie.

If you are interested in ordering one, please contact Pam Au.
Please Help Our Local Food Pantry

The need is great, your donation makes a difference!!

The next time you are shopping, please simply buy a double for one or two of your regular items. That's it! Don't worry about whether it's "this month's" item, it doesn't even need to be edible (a little bit of mascara could be a real treat for someone!). Please just bring an item or two each week when you can, and think of what a difference it will make!

Thank you for your generosity!
