Eastern Bank and Cell Signaling Technology were honored with the Pinnacle Award, the highest distinction. Winning the Leadership Award were Axcelis Technologies, City of Beverly, City of Salem, Cummings Center and Salem State University. These companies are dedicated to accommodating "green" commuters. ACT Public Policy Summit in Washington, DC
Last week, North Shore TMA Executive Director Andrea Leary attended the annual Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) Public Policy Summit in Washington, DC. While many topics related to Transportation Demand Management (TDM) were discussed, the topic that drew the biggest audience was measuring the return on investment of a TDM plan or program. Our friends at the Mobility Lab presented on a universal methodology they created that leveled the playing field for transit and TDM programs and essentially made it easier to show the impact and ROI for TDM programs that receive grants from Federal Highway funds. Also highlighted was the importance of the employer/TMA relationship.

City of Salem to Launch New Bike Share Program
The City of Salem has contracted with Zagster to provide a new bike share program to serve as an alternative way to commute between some of Salem's most popular locations.  The bike share program will launch on Tuesday, May 16th. Riders can choose to purchase an annual membership, which allows for unlimited rides up to one hour (additional fees will be applied for longer rides), or they can ride at an hourly fee. Bikes can be accessed using a smart phone app or via text, along with a credit card. Bikes can be picked up from and returned to any station.
According to information provided by City of Salem Traffic and Parking Manager Matt Smith, bike stations will be located at Federal and Washington Streets (MBTA/Courts Station), Front Street and Washington (Front Street/Derby Square Station) and at the Salem Ferry (Salem Ferry/Blaney Wharf Station). More stations will be added in the coming months.
NSTMA Executive Director Andrea Leary stated, "This is an exciting project that will reduce car trips in Salem. We hope that people who live and/or work near bike hubs will use the bike share in place of taking a car for commuting, running errands and to travel to the variety of hospitality/entertainment venues in the City."

Look for additional information and details about this bike share launch on our website and in our next newsletter!
