Limoneira Partners With Yamaguchi Salon To Introduce The Lemon Cooler Pedicure

To give clients a truly refreshing local experience, Yamaguchi Salon at Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village will be incorporating fresh lemons from Limoneira Ranch in Santa Paula in their new Lemon Cooler Pedicure, starting September 2015.

The new Lemon Cooler Pedicure is the perfect summer treat and uses fresh squeezed lemon juice, granulated sugar and vodka to rejuvenate and invigorate tired feet. Sugar is used to gently smooth, exfoliate and hydrate the skin and lemon juice contains malic and citric acid, which help slough off dead cells to reveal brighter and healthier skin. Vodka is a natural antiseptic that helps cleanse feet and also acts as an effective solvent for removing dirt and grime, especially after guests have worn sandals or flip-flops.

Yamaguchi Salon at the Four Seasons has been voted one of the top salon/spas in America by Conde Nast Traveler, and offers a nurturing retreat. The salon believes in a holistic approach to beauty, so the Lemon Cooler Pedicure is more than just foot scrubbing, it is a luxurious experience. While massaging, therapists use special techniques to target reflex points to send a message through the nervous system to stimulate blood flow, increase circulation and relax every part of the body while the light aroma of fresh summer lemons permeate the spa.

"Lemons are one of the most versatile items in the produce department" says John Carter, Limoneira's Director of Global Sales. "Everyone knows that lemons are a great recipe ingredient and enhancer, but they also have many uses in the areas of health, lifestyle and beauty."

For a truly chic experience, clients will also have the option of having a fresh Lemon Drop Martini delivered to them to enjoy during their treatment. While at the salon, guests will also be able to try and/or purchase Limoneira's natural Lemon Hand Lotion and Lemon Balm Hand Cleanser (Limoneira has been growing lemons for 122 years).

History And Hydro - Southern California's Big Creek Hydroelectric Project

Clean energy is an important part of California's economy and our state has a mandate to develop an ever increasing percentage of energy from renewable sources. Southern California Edison has a long history of renewables and the Company's Big Creek Hydroelectric Project has been a shining example since the early twentieth Century.

Limoneira was on hand for a tour of the facility this past August was greatly impressed by this historical engineering feat.

The Big Creek Hydroelectric Project is an extensive hydroelectric power scheme on the upper San Joaquin River system, in the Sierra Nevada of central California. The use and reuse of the waters of the San Joaquin River, its South Fork, and the namesake of the project, Big Creek - over a vertical drop of 6,200 ft (1,900 m) - have over the years inspired a nickname, "The Hardest Working Water in the World."

The primary purpose of the project was to provide electric power for the fast-growing city of Los Angeles. California engineer John S. Eastwood was the principal designer of the system, which was initially funded and built by Henry E. Huntington's Pacific Light and Power Company (PL&P). Construction of the system's facilities started in 1911, and the first power was transmitted to Los Angeles in 1913. After SCE acquired PL&P in 1917, the system was gradually expanded to its present size, with the last powerhouse coming on line in 1987. Today, these facilities include 27 dams, miles of underground tunnels, and 24 generating units in nine powerhouses with a total installed capacity of more than 1,000 megawatts (MW). Its six major reservoirs have a combined storage capacity of more than 560,000 acre feet (690,000 dam) Today, the Big Creek project generates nearly 4 billion kilowatt hours (KWh) per year - about 90 percent of SCE's total hydroelectric power, or about 20 percent of SCE's total generating capacity. Big Creek accounts for 12 percent of all the hydroelectric power produced in California.
