Our LEST Food Drive
is ending next week!

Lets finish strong Zion!

We are collecting canned and prepared food to donate to those in need in our community.  This food drive is also part of an LEST contest among all Lutheran schools in our region. The contest is based on the total weight of food we are able to collect. So, lets bring in those canned food items and meet the needs of the hungry!

Food can be dropped off in the checkered box in the hallway. Any nonperishable food donations are welcome, but cans are heavier!!! We will weigh our donations at the end of this food drive and try to beat our collections from last year!
PTL Top Five
The PTL met on Friday, January 6. Here are the TOP 5 items to note from that meeting:
  • Feeling Board?
If winter weather has you down, we have the answer for you: GAME NIGHT AT ZION! Dust off your board games, round up your cards, and shuffle over to Zion for a night of fun, fellowship, and light refreshments on Friday, February 24th from 6:30-9:30. Bring your own game or play one of ours…all we need is you!
  • Postage Due!
Our stamp drive is quickly coming to a close. Please collect the last of your canceled postage stamps and send them to school by January 13th. No need to send stamps that are damaged or torn as they cannot be used. Please remember to maintain a ¼ in border if you are cutting them from the envelopes. Winning class gets a treat!
  • Soup’s On!
Our first Teacher Appreciation Lunch is January 12th. We’ll be treating our terrific teachers to a tasty soup bar catered by Zoup! Watch for a Sign-Up Genius invitation coming soon. Contributions of time and/or treasure are a great way to show our appreciation for our dedicated staff!
  • Dine Out for Zion
Call it a Zoup double-header! A portion of Zoup’s proceeds from the Teacher-Appreciation Luncheon will be donated to Zion. Additionally, families and friends who dine at Zoup! that evening from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. will continue to raise money for our school.
  • LuLaRoe®@ Zion
LuLaRoe fundraiser coming to Zion on Wednesday, January 25th, from 2:30 – 4:00 in the Fireside Room. Come browse the boutique for everything from leggings to skirts to dresses and more! A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Zion, and that’s ALWAYS in fashion!

 A Note From Mr. Schultz

It’s been an interesting month of cold weather and ice/snow, which has obviously changed plans for everyone.   What about Snow Days and making them up?  Our School Board and I developed a plan  that I have shared previously that we will use.  Since we had a 3rd snow day before February 20th, President’s Day, we will have school on that day.  We actually have had 5 snow days so far but we are waiting to see what kind of weather comes our way and if we have additional snow days.  After we get through the winter months, we will decide what we will do during the week following Easter and at the end of the year, if needed.   We have options that the public schools do not have.  Our school days are longer already so we do not need to follow everything that the public schools do, but we do consider their plans as we develop ours.  Thank you for your patience and  let’s pray we have better or typical weather for the remainder of winter. -     NO SCHOOL – Monday, MLK Day!
  -     Posting Grades – Edline was experiencing problems within their system which prevented schools from posting grades.   Apparently it is fixed so teachers should now be able to post their grades this weekend.  Thank you for your patience.  We will be looking at other options for the future.
-     LEST plans are moving ahead quickly!  If you have a son or daughter in grades 5-8, you should have received directions for reserving a room for LEST weekend.  It would be wise to go ahead and make your room arrangements with Staybridge Suites soon  so that you are sure to have a place to stay for our group rate.  If you have questions about LEST, you can ask your student’s teacher or myself.

-    National Lutheran Schools Week is coming up during the first full week of February, right before LEST week.  We will have special things scheduled during those weeks so look for further information as it becomes available.
-   Our chapel project  is still the LEST Food Drive.  This will continue through the end of January, so bring in your non-perishables, especially canned goods.  This is a contest based on the weight of our products.  We will be giving our food products to St. Mary’s food pantry/Stone Soup.
-   Would you consider helping communicate with your church/congregation about what Zion has to offer?  I will be asking for help soon for distributing information so that families in our area get to know us like you already do.

-   TADS questions?  Calling TADS directly should answer most questions that come up.  Wendy or I can also be of assistance from the school office

-   Don’t forget to check out your calendars for upcoming events.  Our calendar can also be found on our website under events.

Thank you for being part of the Zion Lutheran School family.  We understand the sacrifice that is made by families in order to have children attend and appreciate all of the support that we receive.  Consider it an investment and not just a cost.  If you have questions or concerns, please speak to your child’s teacher and if I can be helpful in any way, let me know.  Continue to keep our school in your prayers as we look forward to the 2016-2017 school year.

Making Money For Zion With The Money You Are Already Spending!

The Zion PTL has found some creative ways to raise money for our school without costing our families any additional money!
One great way to allocate a portion of dollars you may already be spending to our school is through Amazon Smile!  If you will be doing any shopping on Amazon.com this year, simply enroll with Amazon Smile.  Even if you are using your Amazon Prime Account, you can still connect your purchases to Zion through Amazon Smile and our school will receive 0.5% of all purchases!  Click on the button below for more information and to enroll/link your Amazon or Amazon Prime account to Zion through Amazon Smile.
Many of you have already linked your Fred Meyer Rewards account to Zion Lutheran School.  By linking your account to Zion, a percentage of your purchases are donated directly to our school.

Please remember, even if your account has been linked to our school, you must update this link in June of each year.  If you have not updated this link with Fred Meyer Rewards, your purchases are no longer being allocated to Zion. You can click on the button below or contact Wendy in the school office for assistance with Fred Meyer Rewards.
Another great way to increase the power of the dollars that you are already spending is to purchase Scrip gift cards from the Zion school office.  5% to 10% of the dollars that you will already be spending on groceries, gasoline, gifts, or eating out can go directly to Zion. You can purchase gift cards for Fred Meyer, Walmart and Safeway and use them to purchase your groceries for Thanksgiving or any time of year.  We have both Shell and Chevron gift cards as well. Scrip gift cards for Starbucks, Dutch Bros and many other local and national stores and restaurants are available in the school office.  If we don't have it on hand, we can probably order it.  Click on the button below for an explanation of scrip and a list of available retailers.
