the Stella Maris Academy community prepares lifelong learners who lead, love, and serve as Jesus taught -
transforming our world one student at a time.
Weekly Update: April 20, 2017
To pray discernment for the new name of our school, Bishop Sirba made his rounds to the various campuses. When he arrived at St. John's, I escorted him to the statue of St. John Paul II and asked him to pray there since I was rooting for our new school to be named for my favorite saint. At the time I was unaware that indeed St. John Paul was one of the finalists for the new naming rights, only to have Stella Maris Academy to be chosen. The day after the name selection, it occurred to me that there was something unique about our statue of the pope. The posture of the statue has St. John Paul raising his hand in blessing, but looked at from a particular angle, it appears as though he is pointing up to our rose window dedicated to the Virgin Mary right above him. Most interesting is that the top panel of the stained glass has a highly unique portrayal of Mary as Star of the Sea. It seems as though maybe the Marian pope had cast the deciding vote on behalf of Stella Maris!
