Live Oak Public Libraries
July  2014

Summer is here and it's the perfect time to dip into some beach reading! Did you know that you can check out several bestseller lists directly from the library's online catalog?  Just click on "Catalog home" from our website or when you're searching our catalog. We have bestseller lists from the New York Times, Publishers Weekly and the LA Times. Plenty of titles to choose from but also some great authors whose older works you may have missed.

It's not too late for children and teens to sign up for our Summer Reading Program and read for rewards and great prizes. Our summer calendars are full of fun and interesting programs this month so stop by and beat the heat.

And, if you haven't heard, we've got a great partnership with Savannah Mall. Bring the kids to the butterfly exhibit at Savannah Mall from July 4 through July 27. Buy a butterfly kit and the library receives $1. All money raised will help fund our very popular children's programs.

But what about the adults? As you're reading this summer, share your favorites on our Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Each week through July and August we'll do random drawings from your posts for some great prizes!

Happy reading!

Library Foundation

"One who makes a tangible effort

to promote human welfare."

Wouldn't you like to add that statement as an honorific to your signature line?  It is the designation of a generous contributor as in Bill Gates, Philanthropist.  Despite the Gates Foundation's donationof billions of dollars to combat infectious diseases in developing countries, an "all cured" victory celebration is not imminent. The problem is too large.  Yet Mr. Gates may derive great satisfaction knowing that his generosity has at least moved the needle.

What has this to do with the Library? You may have noticed the plaques along the left wall near the entrance at Bull Street Library recognizing donors who have given from $10,000 to $1 million.
And on the second floor, there is a wall with hundreds of names of those who invested over $1,000
to the
LOPL Foundation.  Philanthropists all!  Their gifts help the Library Foundation fund quality library services like the Summer Reading Program, homework help service and other READ! SUCCEED! initiatives.

Please join the READ! SUCCEED! campaign to make ours a more literate community.  We will not solve everything overnight, but we too will "move the needle".  Ask yourself "If not me, who and if not now, when?"  Your name may also appear in a list:  Bill Gates, Philanthropist; Your Name, Philanthropist.  For information on becoming a Library Philanthropist, contact Christy Divine 912.652.3665 or .

All proceeds from the store will benefit library branches in Chatham, Effingham and Liberty Counties. While these are unpaid positions, volunteering at the library can be a rewarding experience! To find out more about this exciting opportunity, call Scott Pool at (912) 652-3661 or
