Living Word is active in, and strongly supports, mission and service in our community and around the world. There are many opportunities to serve!

Serve in the Church
Knitting and Crocheting Opportunity:
The prayer shawl ministry is touching the hearts of many people. These shawls are bringing peace and comfort as well as much needed prayer to those going through hardship. So many times recipients of the prayer shawls share their appreciation of the gift and acknowledge how special the shawl is for them. Currently our prayer shawl supply has been depleted. If you know how to knit or crochet, would you be able to help make a shawl? Because of a generous donation of yarn, the yarn is supplied for you. We also have simple instructions for you to use. Please contact Val Novatny to get started on a prayer shawl today.
Youth Summer Mission Opportunity:
Youth (grades 6 - 12) have the opportunity to serve at Vacation Bible School (VBS) July 9 - 13. In addition to helping with the every day programming that VBS offers children, our youth will also serve Meramec Elementary by creating a reading area for Meramec's older student classrooms. These reading areas will not only encourage students to read but create a safe and welcoming space where they can do so. We also celebrate on Friday (last day of VBS) with an outdoor water event which includes water, tarps, soap, tiny pools, water balloons, and anything else we can pack into an afternoon. Circle of Concern:
Youth (grade 6 - 12) looking for volunteer service hours can join other teens on Saturday, May 12 to help pack and load food collected by the Ballwin Postal Carriers. There are two shifts: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and 2:00 - 5:00 pm. You must be able to move boxes up to 25 pounds. We will be unloading food from the mail trucks; separating into boxes; and reloading onto trucks headed to Circle Of Concern. In 2017, the Mail Carriers brought in over 85,000 pounds of food! If you have questions, call Steve Ernst (314) 920-2840 or just show up at the Ballwin Post Office on Manchester Road at 11:00 am or 2:00 pm dressed for whatever weather comes that day. We will work rain or shine. Thank you in advance for your help to provide food for families in the Rockwood, Parkway. and Valley Park areas.

Epworth Children and Family Services:
Epworth is planning a picnic with a devotional, music, and games for Epworth Residential kids on Saturday, June 16 from 11 am - 2 pm. Four volunteers (age 21+) are needed to help grill burgers and hot dogs and participate in games with the residents. This is a great time to become involved with the young people in residence and bring them a period of happiness and joy. For more information, please contact
Eileen Koon at 314-560-6689.
Joni and Friends - Missouri:
For the second year Joni and Friends-Missouri will host a Family Retreat at Trout Lodge, July 27-30, 2018. We are hoping to have 20 families affected by Disability attend this camp. We need about 20 more STM's (Short Term Missionaries) to make this long weekend a great time for these families. The cost to be an STM is $350, this covers lodging and food at Trout Lodge and any of the many activities that are available. The greatest need for STM's is to be buddies with the campers with disabilities, allowing parents some time to rest and relax.
