Making a Difference
I have volunteered at Haven House for 3 years. The first time I volunteered there was on one of the Living Word All-Church Serve weekends. That was my first time there, but I didn't start volunteering on a regular basis until later in the Fall of 2015.
My primary way of serving is keeping the website updated. Events are promoted on the website, as well as biographies of staff, board members and the young professional's board. These areas generate most of the updates, on the order of a couple of changes per week. I also serve as a backup for system administration of the computer systems in the Haven House offices. I have also served on the committee for the Golf Scramble held in August and also as a volunteer at the Trivia Night fundraiser in November.
The appreciation of the staff there is just very positive. Things that I think are insignifcant they are just so grateful for and it really makes you want to help out in any way that you can. They really devote all their time to their clients, and it makes you feel you are helping as well.
I feel that I am able to help out in an area that they have a technical need for and am glad to contribute. While I had a good amount of web design experience just doing it ad-hoc where I work, I have been able to learn more working on their website. I have made lots of friends at Haven House, and have really gotten to know most of the staff there too.
