Mission
The mission of Livsey School is for all stakeholders to work collaboratively to maximize students' social and academic potential in a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment, preparing them to compete in a global society.

Vision
Livsey School - Doing whatever it takes to meet and exceed the standard of excellence through unity and purpose.

Character Trait of the Month..........
December: Caring
Caring means showing concern for the well being of others. It involves being kind and compassionate. You can show others you care by being thankful and forgiving. Simply stated, caring is when you help out people in need.

January: Perseverance
Perseverance is staying on task and not giving up. Perseverance is when you show commitment, pride, and a positive attitude when completing tasks. Perseverance is the ability to stick to something and complete a task even though difficult circumstances may try to prohibit you from finishing.

Student Attendance
In December 2016, Livsey Elementary School will launch a School-Wide Attendance Program, " Count Me In," for the 2016-2017 school year. " Count Me In" is a program designed to increase student attendance at Livsey Elementary. With pertinent shared data, scheduled parent communication and student incentives, we want to instill a sense of priority in each child and family member to attend school every day and on-time.

SCHOOL SUCCESS BEGINS WITH ATTENDANCE! When it comes to school, students who miss school...miss out. Attendance boosts student achievement and improves the quality of your child's educational experience. Our Attendance Incentive Program for the 2016-2017 school year is geared toward decreasing the number of students with 6 or more absences by 5% from the previous school year. Last school year, 34.4% of our students missed 6 or more days of school. Presently, 8% of our students have missed 6 or more days of school. We are Livsey and can exceed this improvement goal. Let's all work together to reduce student absences and tardies.

Student Art Work
In an effort to further display student work, we have added space near the media center to display student art work. Each month, Mrs. Nova will select student work that demonstrates our students' best effort and talent. Be sure to stop by and take a look.

4th Grade Outdoor Education Field Trip to Camp Fortson 4-H Center

We are currently planning the fourth grade outdoor education field trip to Camp Fortson 4-H Center in Hampton, Georgia. Students will take part in classes that are engaging and hands-on, immersing the student in the natural environment to actively apply concepts learned in the classroom. The dates for this trip are Wednesday, March 29th through Thursday, March 30, 2017. We are very excited about this field trip and we would love for all of the fourth grade students to attend. Details about the trip will be sent home in couriers. Also, there will be an informational meeting for parents about the Fortson Trip on Thursday, March 2, 2017 in Mrs. Vance's room at 5:00 PM.

Livsey School's Physical Fitness Pays Off..........

We are happy to announce Livsey School has been awarded a prize of $1,000 for finishing as the second place school in the Metro Atlanta Fire Up Your Feet 2016 Fall Activity Challenge! This program
is part of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership and is sponsored by Kaiser Permanente. According to FireUpYourFeet.org, "The Challenge is a friendly and healthy  competition that encourages
families, students and schools to work together to create active lifestyles that keep families healthy and help kids improve academic performance." Coach Shaw diligently tracked our school-based fitness activities throughout the month of October and we were able to log 383,455 minutes of activity in just one month! That's an average of 983 minutes per student which equates to roughly one hour of physical activity per student per school day for the month of October. These activities included, but  were not limited to, our weekly PE classes and individual daily class recesses as well as Cross Country Club meetings, dance classes, ASEDP recess and classes, and more. It is because of our outstanding community that we are able to provide so many opportunities for fitness for our students. Thank you for your support!

STEM Update

As referenced in the beginning of the year, one of our school goals is to incorporate more STEM lessons that are correlated to Georgia learning standards. In addition to this goal, we are also approaching our second school-wide STEM Day. Our second STEM Day is December 16. Please CLICK HERE for more details about this wonderful day of learning for our students.
Co-President's Corner
Hello Livsey Friends,

It is hard to imagine that the holidays are already upon us! We hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving break as much as we did.

We all know December and January will be busy months for our community.  December kicks off with the Secret Shop from December 6 th-9 th. Open mornings and afternoons, the kids can buy small gifts for their loved ones and have the gifts wrapped by PTO volunteers.  It is so much fun to see the joy on their faces as they consider the "perfect" gift for each person on their lists!  Click  here to volunteer.  During that same week on December 7 th from 5-7pm we will have a Family Night Out at the Chick-fil-A at Tucker Station.  Additionally, please note that this year, the holiday parties will be on the next-to-last day of school, which falls on December 20 th.  This gives the teachers extra time to clean up their classrooms before the winter break.

Looking ahead to January, we have several events to draw to your attention.  We return to school on Thursday, January 5 th, and then have Awards Day on Friday, January 13 th.  On Awards Day, parents are invited to come and see their children be honored for the hard work they did during the first semester.  For 4th and 5th graders, the school Spelling Bee will be on January 9 th, and the Geography Bowl will be held on January 19 th.

As many of you may know, our school has an orchard!  It was donated last year by the Tucker Orchard Guild.  We need help watering the orchard during the warm months (especially when there is no rain!).  If you are interested in helping with this please sign up here.

Finally, thank you to all who have donated to our SPOTS giving campaign.  If you are looking for a tax-deductible gift to make before the 2016 deadline, please consider donating to the PTO.  With your contributions, we have raised over $2500, but we are still short of our end of the school year goal. We will continue taking donations throughout the school year to help finance all of the many programs the PTO helps provide for the students, staff, and community of Livsey School.  If you would like to make a donation, please visit our  website, or make your check payable to "Livsey PTO" in any amount that is right for you, and mail it to:

Mid-Year Appropriations

Due to the great success of our Whooo's Reading Reading-raiser earlier this school year, we will be holding Mid-Year Appropriations.  Any teacher, staff or parent may make a request for the use of the funds during this process.  The requests will be considered by the Appropriations Committee and the PTO Board.  If you are interested in submitting a request please download the following document and turn it into the Livsey PTO mailbox in the front office by Wednesday, December 21, 2016.

Donation Request
Dear Parents,
In hopes of fulfilling new goals for learning, fun, and physical fitness in PE class, we are reaching out for the following donations. The funds available to Coach Shaw only go so far, that's why our hope is that some of these gently used items may be found lying around your house, under-loved or unused. If so, please feel free drop them by the front office, or directly to Coach Shaw in the gym, and we would be happy to give them a new life at Livsey!

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Coach Shaw and Amy Parsons (PE room parent)

Easy Money

While you are out holiday shopping and buying all of your ingredients for your famous holiday recipes, don't forget you can earn some cash for Livsey through our Easy Money programs!

The holidays are here and one of my favorite ways to shop is on Amazon.  What I love even more than shopping at Amazon is being able to support our school while I'm doing it.  By using Amazon Smile .05% of all eligible purchases (which is pretty much everything I buy) is donated to Livsey Elementary PTO.  All you have to do is follow this link to set-up your Amazon account to support Livsey as well.  Then each time you get ready to buy something off of Amazon, don't forget to direct your browser to smile.amazon.com!  Contact Stephanie Wilson at [email protected] if you have any questions.

We've been using Shoparoo as another, hassle-free way for Livsey to earn money.  Last year we earned $236.89.  Download the free Shoparoo App (available from Apple iTunes or Google Play) and use the referral code star9714 to gain an extra 100 points immediately! Simply snap pictures of your receipts from anywhere you shop to earn points which then turns into cash for our school!

Thank you for sending your Coke Rewards Codes found on caps and fridge packs of Coca Cola Products (Minute Maid and Powerades too!).  So far this year we have earned $118.66 through Coke Rewards, so keep those codes coming.  Just place them in the red box in front of the main office and we will do the rest!

Finally don't forget while you are doing your holiday baking to clip those BoxTops and use your Kroger Plus Card or Publix Partners card at the grocery store to earn more money for our school!
Health and Wellness
Farm to School for the month of December is Yellow Squash.  Yellow squash is low in sodium, fat, and cholesterol.  It contains vitamins A, C, BG, B1, potassium and folate.

According to organicfacts.net, "squash is one of the most versatile and delicious vegetables available throughout the world, and...packs a serious punch in terms of healthy, medicinal benefits. Different varieties of squash have the ability to improve the quality of your sight, boost skin health, strengthen the immune system, prevent cancer, manage symptoms of diabetes, build strong bones, protect heart health, reduce symptoms of insomnia, prevent inflammatory conditions, treat arthritis, eliminate ulcers, eliminate parasites and infections, increase prostate health, protects against birth defects, boosts respiratory health, and reduces blood pressure.

Enzo's Pizza
A short history on Enzo's Pizza:

A Rock and Roll Pizza Joint!
Growing up near an Italian neighborhood in New Jersey, Tom Tilotson developed a deep affection for the area's legendary New York Pizza at an early age. In the early 1980's Tom moved south to Atlanta.
Although he quickly embraced the wonderful weather and Southern Hospitality of the friendly people of Georgia, Tom still yearned for his beloved New York Style Pizza. Tom searched the south for that elusive crust, exceptional cheeses and savory sauce which comprise to the perfect pie.

Having finally come to the conclusion that he should make his own, Tom spent the next several years swapping recipes, ideas, and secrets with master Pizza Chef's all over the east coast.

Lesley McGee
Hi, my name is Lesley McGee and my family has been part of the Livsey community for many years. Our older boys Connor and Matthew, now a Junior and a Freshman at St. Pius X Catholic High School were both students at Livsey. Brennan, our youngest is a 1st grader in Ms. Major's class. I am fortunate to work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the area of vaccine preventable diseases focusing on respiratory diseases and pneumonia. I really love working in public health and my job often takes me to other countries. It is really fun to experience such diverse cultures but I am constantly reminded how blessed we are in the United States.

I like to spend my free time with my family and love to watch our boys play soccer, water polo and compete in swimming and cross country. I also enjoy reading, and being outdoors working in our garden.

We moved to the US in 2002 from South Africa with 2 small children and found a home and settled in the Tucker area. When our older kids started at Livsey what made the most impression on us was how the Livsey community is like family. I am still amazed at how the school staff, teachers and parents are so devoted to our children. I would encourage parents and families to join the PTO and be involved in whatever way to can in the school as it "takes a village"!

Ms Michelle Anderson
Hi, I'm Michelle Anderson and I came to Livsey in 2016. I teach Kindergarten. My favorite book is  Wonder by R. J. Palacio. I really enjoy going out to eat. Some of my favorite things to eat are pizza, sushi, lox bagels, grits, empanadas, and Chick-fil-A. Do you know that for fun I like to walk around Piedmont Park, hike, and travel? I also enjoy baking!  My favorite thing about Livsey is the students. We have a great group of kids at our school and I really enjoy coming in each and every day and watching them grow and learn. It truly is amazing. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store. I would like to see our school get more technology, specifically computers and iPads, to help our students incorporate technology into their everyday lives.
JaQuita Ewing
Hi, I'm JaQuita Ewing and I came to work at Livsey this year August 2016.  Currently I am a 5th grade Social Studies and ELA teacher; however, I have taught grades 7th, 4th, and 2nd.  My room is decorated mostly with green, black, and pink because I love bold neon colors and pink being one of my favorite colors.  My favorite book is Thank You Mr. Falker.  Tacos are my favorite food.   I enjoy going to out to eat, bowling, and movies with family and friends.  Do you know that for fun I like Arts and Crafts Projects and cooking?  My favorite things about Livsey are the staff and students.  The staff is just like family and the students are eager to learn.  I can't wait for our next STEM day and for the 5th grade band performance.  I would like to see our school have a robotics team.
