KCDC's Annual Fundraiser
You're invited to our 10th Annual Wine in the Holidays fundraiser, our only fundraiser of the year. It's a festive evening of fun and music "under glass" in the greenhouse at Puritas Nursery on Thursday, December 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. Your $45 ticket includes:
  • A variety of wines and speciality beers
  • Sumptuous, heavy hors d'oeuvres from AMP 150
  • Swing music by Blue Lunch, an 8-piece band with a 3-man horn section
  • HO trains chugging through hills and valleys of live greenery and flowing water

Cranksgiving Cleveland
Join the Northeast Ohio cycling community in collecting more than $2,000 in food to provide meals to disadvantaged Cleveland families. Be part of the second annual Bike Cleveland Cranksgiving at West Park Station, 17015 Lorain Avenue, on Saturday, November 23, at 11 a.m. From there, you will ride on your own or with friends to grocery stores, picking up a certain food item at each store. Starting time is 11 a.m. Details at the Facebook event here.

Tomorrow evening (11/19), James Jessen Badal, author of Twilight of Innocence: The Disappearance of Beverly Potts, is making a special presentation for the West Park Historical Society at 7 p.m. at the Cretan Party Center at 3853 West 168th Street, across from Walgreens. The event is free. Please park in the municipal lot off Albers Avenue. The West Park Historical Society's newest book: Cleveland's West Side Then and Now will also be available for purchase that evening for $12.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has issued a Call for Artists for its upcoming exhibition "Abstract Nation," as part of its temporary art exhibition program. This is a chance for cultural institutions, arts organizations, museums, and individual artists to exhibit their original artwork and photography at the airport. Details here.

Congratulations to Riverside Elementary School, 14601 Montrose Avenue! The girls volleyball team celebrates an undefeated season and Cleveland Municipal School District championship. Way to go! The K-8 co-ed soccer

team won the city soccer championship, beating reigning champs Gallagher 3-2, with an undefeated season except for an earlier tie with the same team. Kudos to all!  

Newton D. Baker School of the Arts students McKenna Jablonske, Cassandra Naider, and Emily Pikturna are Grand Prize winners of Great Lakes Theater's 25th Annual A Christmas Carol writing contest. Their winning essay, The Christmas Carol 1-1/2 will be performed by actors from the company of Great Lakes Theater's production of A Christmas Carol for broadcast on WCPN 90.3 FM. The girls will be interviewed about their collaborative writing process by Sound of Applause host Dee Perry this week, and they will get tickets to see a public performance of the production. Congratulations! And, a tip of the hat to their volunteer writing coach, Judy Stryffeler, recently retired from local company, Red Seal Electric, a long-time supporter of the school.  

Fabulous foods await you at St. Mary's Holiday Boutique and Food Fair Saturday, November 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at  St. Mary Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, 3256 Warren Rd. In addition to gifts and crafts for sale, enjoy delicious home-baked pastries, homemade noodles, sausage, stuffed cabbage, chicken stew, plus mamaliga cu branza (polenta baked with cheese) made famous at St. Mary's summer festivals.
