Spring has finally arrived! The trees and flowers are blooming and we are enjoying outdoor recess. Please help us keep spring fever down by reminding your students that there is still a lot of learning to be done at school. AIR testing for 3
rd
and 4
th
grade students is wrapping up this week and starting next week all students will be assessed using the MAP.
May is always a busy time of year at school. With that in mind, I want to highlight some important upcoming events:
Thursday, May 10: OPEN HOUSE at 7 p.m.
Come and check out all the wonderful things your student has been doing this year in the classroom, PE, Library, Mandarin, Music & Art. Show your student how proud you are of their hard work! Fourth graders’ art will be on display in the auditorium and El Sistema will perform in the gym. This is a celebration of a year-long collaboration between our students and our staff and we hope you can be here to help us celebrate!
Friday, May 18: LAPS for LOMOND from 1 - 3 p.m.
This is a big ‘fun’draiser for our school. Students get sponsored to run laps. Watch for a flyer coming home!
Tuesday, May 22: 4
th
Grade IB Exhibition 4:30 - 6:15 p.m.
The IB Exhibition is the culminating IB project for the 4
th
grade students. Fourth graders have been working hard on a group topic of their choosing which they will present several times to friends and family. Students remain after school to have a snack and prepare. Parents should arrive in time for the first presentation which begins at 4:30 sharp. Don’t miss it!
Some
Thank You’s:
Last week, we hosted the 4

A lot of work went into planning these events and I want to thank our school nurse, Ms. Exum, and our PTO volunteers, Ms. Burdsall, Ms. Colon, Ms. Peterson and Ms. Rhodes for jointly sponsoring and organizing these important events. I also want to thank the pediatricians, Dr. Alexander (Lomond parent) and Dr. Borus, who donated their time and expertise to be our speakers. Also thanks to Ms. Smith (Lomond’s administrative assistant) for helping with setup each night. Reminder! On May 16
th
we will offer an additional Girls Night Out for any 4
th
grade girl who couldn’t attend due to Woodbury Orientation.

May 18
1-3 p.m.
Laps for Lomond,
the annual healthy, school-spirited FUNdraiser is fast approaching. Money raised helps the PTO support teacher grants, school-wide assemblies, artist-in-residence programs, a children’s orchestra, and many more educational, cultural and community-based Lomond School events.
This festive event includes all students, their family members, teachers and administrators. Families and supportive staff cheer on students and their teachers as they run, walk, skip or jog laps around a grass course at Lomond, while enjoying great music. In the weeks leading up to the event, the physical education teachers spend time preparing students to ensure everyone has a rewarding experience.
Students also spend the weeks leading up to the event collecting donations from family members, neighbors and community members to help offset the event cost and to help the PTO raise money for future school programs. Students receive a Lomond-themed award after the event as a positive reminder of their contribution to the school. We love to see their pride as they wear something they have earned.
Event Highlights:
- SHOE WALL- Starting in April, students can earn a shoe to hang in the gym.
- RAFFLE BASKETS - A $10 donation earns students a raffle ticket.
- SHOUT OUT - Buy a $1 shout out for a quick word of encouragement to your child the week of “Laps for Lomond”.
- School wide POPSICLE PARTY! When we reach our school donation goal of $2,000.
How Can You Help?
- Email Amy Nieman to help volunteer prior to the event.
- If you are a small local business please consider a financial or service (for the raffle) business donation.
- Look for announcements in the Friday email and backpack mail.
- Help your child get donations. Look for PayForIt donation site in following announcements. Start a Laps for Lomond Jar in your house!
- Start walking and running with your child in preparation for the event.
