Houston, TX - As a result of extensive efforts put forth by Council Member Dwight Boykins and the City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department, a full-service, quality grocery store will be coming to the District D community.

Pyburns Farm Fresh Foods will be located at the corner of Corder and Scott and is scheduled for groundbreaking on June 30th, 2014. The new grocery store will bring more than 25 new jobs to the South Union community and also offer 24-hour security.

Council Member Boykins will host a community meeting at Cullen Middle School on June 17th at 6:30 pm. Attendees of the community meeting will have an opportunity to provide input on grocery selections and meet the owner of Pyburns Farm Fresh Foods.

"It is my greatest honor to welcome a quality grocery store to the neighborhood that raised me," Councilman Dwight Boykins said. "The community will have a wide array of choices with several options coming straight from the farmer's fields directly to our store. Senior citizens and parents deserve quality produce, excellent customer service, and a unique atmosphere in their neighborhood."

The June 30thgroundbreaking ceremony will begin at 9:30 am. Pyburns Farm Fresh Foods will help to address concerns of limited community access to affordable and nutritious food options, while simultaneously renewing the urban landscape and revitalizing the community.
