In The Community: Immigrant Issues
and Allyship on KGNU's Outsources

This week's Outsources show focuses on immigrants and their allies, a topic that has taken on particular salience in the past two weeks.

OutSources contributors Glenda Russell and Janis Bohan talked with Marco Dorado, Program Coordinator for the University of Denver's Latino Leadership Institute, and Erika Blum, Grassroots Fundraising Manager and Northern Area Support Person with the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition! Click here to listen  to their conversation about what's ahead for nonprofits in Boulder County.

Also, don't forget to check out Outsources every Monday at 6:30 PM for more LGBTQ conversations on KGNU!

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: PFLAG Fundraiser

Denver PFLAG Scholarship Program is delighted to invite you to our annual scholarship program event on February 11th to raise money for our scholarship awards.

Join us at Artwork Network in Denver for our wonderful program from 7 to 9 PM. Enjoy our amazing auction items, delicious appetizers, two tickets for beer and wine, and lots of fun for everyone.

You'll love Yolanda Deherrera in full, fabulous drag. And we're excited to present Spinphony Electric String Quartet as our incredible headliner for the evening. Spinphony will light up our evening with mashed-up, rocked-out versions of classical music.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Grant Wallich

Come see Grant's art, now hanging at OBC on Main!

Half way through his first semester of art school, digital artist and creator of Nogland, Grant Wallich, began to feel the need for a less restrictive, regimented environment and left to follow his own path of learning, creation, and experimentation. Since making the decision Wallich has done numerous gallery showings in Denver and Las Vegas, and a large amount of freelance work.

Wallich's initial artistic endeavors were graffiti and street art, but eventually he found his very own niche in a highly colorful, occasionally grotesque, surreal style. His pieces are thought provoking; often poking fun at the downsides of modern day society.

While Grant's artistic medium is primarily (self taught) digital painting, he also utilizes oil and watercolor painting, pen and ink, airbrushing, sculpting and Photoshop. Nogland creations vary from the nightmarishly morbid, to the whimsically cute. Regardless of the viewer's aesthetic opinion, Wallich's pieces are sure to invoke a reaction, and will leave the viewer with a lasting impression.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT:
PFLAG and TYES Art Therapy Event

During these times of uncertainty and change in our government, the LGBT community needs as many safe places as possible to be in community and to stay connected. Art therapy, whether individual or group, is an effective and important therapy that can help LGBT youth slow down and meditate on how they see themselves fitting into the world.

There will also be a confidential support group from TYES at 2pm at the same venue. The TYES support group is for parents and caregivers of gender expansive youth only. Please call (720) 443-7708 with questions.

When: Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 3:00pm
Where: First United Methodist Church,
     1421 Spruce Street, Boulder
