"Comparing Inference Approaches for RD Designs: A Reexamination of the Effect of Head Start on Child Mortality"
By: Matias D. Cattaneo, Ph.D., Rocío Titiunik, Ph.D., and Gonzalo Vazquez-Bare
This article discusses important conceptual distinctions between two approaches to regression discontinuity (RD) design and illustrates the main issues by re-analyzing a study of the effect of Head Start assistance on child mortality originally conducted by Ludwig and Miller (2007). As part of our ongoing effort to promote JPAM authors to the APPAM membership and the public policy field at large, we have asked the authors to answer a few questions. See the authors' interview responses here.
