APPAM Public Policy Camp Presents a Roadmap
for Underrepresented Students
APPAM’s Public Policy Camp took place on Friday, September 15th, at George Washington University.

The inaugural #APPAMcamp event was held to introduce the field of public policy to a group of students who might not otherwise be familiar with it, as well as to increase the pipeline of diverse students into APPAM institutional member graduate public policy and public affairs schools.

Nearly 50 undergraduate students from around the DC area joined policy professionals for the day to discuss the study of public policy and analysis, what a career in policy might look like and how diversity impacted their studies and career paths.

2017 Equity & Inclusion Student Fellowship

In an effort to encourage participation by underrepresented students in APPAM and its activities, the Policy Council and APPAM’s Diversity Committee awarded the inaugural ‘APPAM Equity and Inclusion Fellowship’ to 25 students in 2016. Due to the success of the program, the number of fellowships increased to 35 for 2017.

The fellowship supports the travel and participation of these students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds at the 2017 APPAM Fall Research Conference. APPAM received well over 100 applications - special thanks to the Equity & Inclusion Fellowship Selection Committee for reviewing every application.
