Bowties for Babies: A Southern Soiree Benefiting Life
is less than two months away, and the Louisiana Right to Life Leadership for Life Award winners have been announced! Please help us thank former Sen. Ben Nevers and former Rep. Tom Willmott for their commitment to life by becoming a Bowties for Babies patron or buying tickets to the event, where they will be honored. These two men, both in their own way and style, were outspoken leaders for life at the State Capitol.
Nevers, from Bogalusa, served as a State Representative from 2000-2004 and a State Senator from 2004- 2016. He strongly supported pro-life bills while he served, and in 2006, he authored the "Trigger Law" that declared, upon the overturning of Roe v. Wade, all unborn babies will be protected under Louisiana law.
Upon leaving the Senate, Nevers served as the Chief of Staff for Gov. John Bel Edwards and spearheaded pro-life policies under the new administration. He recently retired as Chief of Staff to spend more time with his family and in service to his church.
Willmott, of Kenner, both a registered nurse and an attorney, served as State Representative from 2008-2016. During his service, Willmott championed the expansion and promotion of Louisiana's Safe Haven Law, authoring at least eight laws and resolutions aimed at making the Safe Haven law more effective in saving lives. Willmott also authored the 2016 "Compassionate Burial Options Act," empowering parents with the clear right to be able to bury miscarried babies. He recently left the State Legislature after being elected to Kenner's City Council in 2016.
Louisiana Right to Life is proud to honor these two men as leaders in the protection of human life during their careers at the State Capitol, and we hope you will join us at Bowties for Babies as they are recognized for their service.
Bowties for Babies, chaired this year by Charlie and Ellen Davis and Jeff and Bridget Dunbar, will feature live New Orleans jazz by Bean 'N' the Boys, good food, and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit LARTL's Advertise for Life project, which uses targeted online advertising to connect women in crisis pregnancies with one of the state's pregnancy resource centers that can help them choose life.
