AHospitality Training Begins at Goodwill  (Roanoke)

Goodwill Industries ®  of the Valleys' hospitality training program will begin in January. This program will prepare students for a career in the hospitality industry. The training program is credentialed by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), which is widely accepted by the hospitality industry. Through Goodwill's hospitality training program, individuals will gain skills and knowledge needed to keep lodging guest rooms clean, safe, and maintained; gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as a food service professional in a dining facility, and learn basic food safety practices for preparing and serving food.

In addition to classroom training, a mock hotel suite will provide hands-on experience. Employee Excellence training will be included, which is a soft skills training program developed by the Virginia Goodwill Network. Other training components will include job shadowing at various hotels and restaurants; and lectures and guest speakers from the local hospitality industry.

DGoodwill Donations Dip During Winter Months

Each year, the winter months usher in not only colder temperatures but a decline in donations for Goodwill Industries of the Valleys.

"January, February, and March are historically the months where we see the fewest donations," states Mindy Boyd, Vice President of Donated Goods. "Our mission is to help people and families achieve a better life through work and independence. We support this mission by operating job training programs to help individuals in the community get back to work. The sale of donated goods from our generous communities help fund these programs. Low inventory in stores results in fewer sales."

Goodwill provides convenient donation centers throughout the 31 county, 13 city service area in Virginia. May offer drive-up donation centers where the donor can remain in their car and have a Goodwill Donation Attendant  take care of unloading their donations.

For the closest donation center, visit: www.goodwillvalleys.com/donate/donategoods/locations/.

Don't wait for Spring. Donate to Goodwill today and help fund job programs that allow individuals to become independent and earn a pay check.
