Connecting Everywhere... Every Day

May, 2017 Issue 160

A BOOK AND VIDEOS     - Gary Holloway
Two great resources from World Convention are now available.
Hot off the press is A Global Fellowship: A Concise History of the World Convention. This 145-page book with forty photographs tells the amazing story of World Convention from its beginning in 1930 until today. Here's what some say about the book:
I heartily recommend this book not only as a history of the World Convention, but as a very helpful introduction to the work of the Stone-Campbell Movement itself.
-Dyron B. Daughrity, Professor of Religion, Pepperdine University
A deeply insightful and sometimes surprising overview of this global ministry-from its backgrounds and beginning in 1930, through the 20th century, to the amazing developments of the 21st century.
- Douglas A. Foster, Professor of Church History, Abilene Christian University
A candid, richly and fascinatingly detailed account of the ongoing evolution of an organization formed to advance the visible unity and witness of the church through a global fellowship of Christians of the Stone-Campbell Movement.
 - D. Newell Williams, President and Professor of Church History, Brite Divinity School
Overall, this book is a godsend for those who seek to understand how the particularity of the Stone-Campbell fellowship can lead to promote the global unity of all Christians.
-Yukikazu Obata, Ibaraki Christian University, Japan
This book will raise up a greater awareness of the World Convention and its important ministry.
 - Rick Cherok, Professor of Church History, Cincinnati Christian University
This offering...provides a significant gift for both the churches affiliated with the Stone-Campbell Movement and those active in the global ecumenical movement.
- Mark G. Toulouse, Principal, Emmanuel College of Victoria University in the University of Toronto
This work... made me freshly proud of my own heritage ... and excited me as to what the World Convention stands for - fellowship and unity and global mission.
--Leonard Thompson-Director, Strategic World Evangelism, Chennai, India

Global Women Connecting
Liaison Report
1st Quarter, 2017

Our first quarter of the year included women's events held in concert with World Convention's 19th Global Gathering in Damoh, India. During the two sessions specifically targeted for women, between 300 and 500 women participated in the lectures presented by Sheela Lall, Abhineeta Matney, Lydia Soko, and Esline Toamavute. Presentations were recorded and can be accessed at www.GlobalWomenConnecting.org. A regular task at the Global Gathering is the Executive Committee meeting to discuss the business of the organization and make plans for its' future. At that meeting, Lydia Soko from Zimbabwe was selected as our new president, the Rules of Procedure were updated, and a new service project, Aatma Vikas was selected.

February and March brought opportunities to update the Global Women Connecting web site and our Facebook page with reports and pictures from our experiences in India. A new brochure was designed as well. All methods of communication contain information about ways to support Aatma Vikas and connect with each other. March 3, I attended the Women of Hope Conference held in Lebanon, Tennessee. This is an annual event to share inspiration and information about the mission work of Healing Hands International based in Nashville, Tennessee. I am hoping to participate in their featured exhibit hall in the future.

It has also been a time to schedule upcoming exhibits and travel. From May 24 - June 2, I will travel with my daughter, Johanna Keith on the Women of Strength trip sponsored by Amor Ministries to Baja Mexico. We will experience building relationships with women from all over the globe as we help build a home alongside sisters in the area between Tijuana and Tecate, Mexico. June 12 - 16 I will have the blessing of study and renewal with Come before Winter in North Andover, Massachusetts. This opportunity offers renewal for women called to, or in support of, mission and ministry. July 8-12, I will be in Indianapolis, Indiana for the Disciples General Assembly and November 16-19 in Peoria, Illinois at the International Conference on Missions to host exhibits with World Convention.

GWC President, Lydia Soko spoke at a women's conference during this quarter which prompted the development of a new information video for GWC. This and all other materials are available for sharing Global Women Connecting with others.

New GWC Service Project

Aatma Vikas trains women in sewing, stitching and jewelry making to prepare them for employment and free the future for themselves and their families. Global Women Connecting supports Aatma Vikas until Global Gathering-20 in Swaziland. Hear the story  of how lives are being changed here.

The Skipping Stone partners with Aatma Vikas by providing lifestyle products. Profits go directly toward employing women still working in bondage.

Global Women Connecting join together in prayer.

You are encouraged to pray a monthly scripture, then note the words or images that come to mind each day. (A click on the image to the right will give you a downloadable pdf to print and use to record your thoughts.)

You might want to use the tradition of lectio divina and read the scripture aloud three times, then take note of the word or phrase that seems to stand out to you. Stop and stay with the word or phrase and follow where your heart goes.

Blessings to you.
