Rector's Reflections
Lost and Found

Sunday's readings give witness that God has a heart for losers. God reconciles with the idol-worshiping people of Israel. The risen Lord calls the violent, blasphemous persecutor, Paul. The faithful shepherd rescues the wandering sheep and carries it home. The woman who lost one of her ten silver coins searches for it until she finds it. Similarly, God doesn't abandon people even when people abandon God. The cross and resurrection testify to God's faithfulness in that regard. God rescues strays one by one, making the first move to find the lost and create new hearts in them. When (in the first reading) Moses holds God to promises already made in the covenant, the breathtaking picture emerges of a God so committed to relationship that God is influenced-changed-by what people need and ask. This faithfulness of God, shared with overflowing grace in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus, is patient, forgiving, energetic, and ready to celebrate. Take the bread and cup-Jesus hosts the worshiping assembly again this week to welcome sinners and eat with them! Suddenly, "sinner" is no longer the best name for us. Try "guest," "graced," "gifted," "loved," and "empowered." Then it's time to follow Jesus out of the gathered assembly and into the world as apprentice sleuths for missing persons, bent on finding the lost and the broken and giving them an invitation to come home. [ Sundays and Seasons, 2016]

Join us Sunday for a day full of celebrating!

Solar Array is Plugged In

It may be difficult to see in the photo above, but the All Saints' solar array is operational!

Opportunities Still Available
If you were worried you missed your chance to become editor or co-editor of the eNews, worry not! True Saint Jeannie Muir has graciously offered to be part of the team but prefers to get more of the tech-side of the job under her belt and therefore is unable to take over duties at this time. Please contact Pastor Bill if you are interested in this mission. (Remember? PJs. Wine. Netflix reruns... It's a dream job!)

Thanks,

Drivers Needed
If anyone can help with driving Larry to Radiation therapy at Douglas Wentworth between now and October 21st, please contact Jane at [email protected] for any appointment dates and times. She is very grateful for your help.
Donations to Louisiana Flood Victims
At their August meeting, Vestry members approved the recommendation of the Mission/Outreach Team to donate $1,000 to flood victims in Louisiana. The donation will be channeled through ERD, Episcopal Relief & Development. The monies will be spent in the most needy areas as soon as possible.

The devastation in Louisiana is overwhelming. This is an opportunity for All Sainters to make a difference and help ERD bring much-needed supplies and compassionate support to people in the Gulf Coast. Please go to  www.episcopalrelief.org for information if your wish to make a personal donation. Or you may mail a check to:

            Episcopal Relief & Development
            P O Box 7058
            Merrifield VA 22116-7058

Please put US Disaster Relief/Louisiana Flooding in the memo line.

Our Mission/Outreach Team is committed to using the Mission Fund to reach out to local, national, international and Sustainability for the Future causes. We appreciate your support and ask that you join us in Spreading the Word through sharing our Time, Talent and Treasure.

Fair Chair 2017 Search
A committee of recent summer fair chairs is searching for summer fair leaders for 2017. The leaders do not need to be spouses, or even close friends. The fair chairs have met and talked about the terrific experiences that each experienced. Some of the experiences were transformative. Over the next several weeks we'll publish in the eNews statements from past fair chairs.

This week Tom Cote relates experiences from 2012, when he and Donna chaired the fair.

Please give leading the fair prayerful consideration. Past fair chairs have pledged to be with the leaders on this journey, and will provide help and guidance each step of the journey.

Sincerely,
Phil Wasmuth
Summer Fair Co-chairs selection committee

The experience of leading the Summer Fair with Donna, was a blessing for Donna and me. Everyday we felt blessed to be with a group of volunteers who showed up at the undercroft to sort through the bags and boxes of items that had been donated. The camaraderie of the All Saints' booth chairs and volunteers was overwhelming. Each went about their tasks with precision, as their experience over the years simplified the task.

As Fair Chairmen, Donna and I were in the undercroft almost daily to help and support the volunteers. Was this necessary of us? Absolutely not, as the booth chairs knew exactly what to do. No micromanagement was necessary from us.

Our responsibility as Fair Chairmen was to make sure that all was running smoothly, and in a timely manner. Previous to our chairmanship, Pat and Jack McLaughlin had put together a binder which outlined each step of the process. This included getting all the permits from the town, and ordering the tents. Those tasks are now handled by others. That binder has been updated and expanded by Pete and Susie Walker.

We felt that our only responsibility was to be a presence for the volunteers, and support their efforts.  We enjoyed participating in the joyful conversations in the undercroft each day.

Was it a chore to be the fair chairmen? Absolutely not. We cherished every new friendship that was developed, and it strengthened our purpose of belonging to All Saints' Church.

The experience was a blessing.

Tom Cote, 2012 Summer Fair Co-Chair

Fosters and Milligans Addresses
This summer the Fosters and Milligans both moved south leaving large gaps in our faith community and the Town of Wolfeboro. Please update your Parish Directories and feel free to send prayers and best wishes as both couples embark on new chapters in their lives.

UTO is Back!
Do you need a new Little Blue Box? Beginning this fall, All Saints Church will restore its semi-annual United Thank Offering Ingathering of coins that individual Episcopalians give as daily expressions of thanks for their many blessings. Most parishioners keep their Blue Box on their dresser where they can drop in their change at the end of the day. Collected twice a year, the contents of a Blue Box may seem small, but pooled together across the diocese and the wider church, they become a mighty sum that can do great good at home and abroad. The fall UTO Ingathering is held on a Sunday in October so that collected gifts can be presented at Diocesan Convention the first weekend in November. Watch for the date in the next issues of All Saints E-mail. New Blue Boxes and envelopes will be available in the narthex during the next few Sundays.

A Season of Thankfulness
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5
Bishop Rob reminds us "when Jesus identifies himself with a grapevine and God the Father as the vinedresser, he's not talking about making grapes.  He's talking about the resilient, relentlessly outstretching, and healthy life that God longs for all of us." With Jesus as the vine, we are the branches that are connected to God and one another. We grow and produce good fruit through our life together for one another and for the sake of the world.

During the coming weeks, we will be focusing on the abundant leaves of blessing, the gifts we are given and give thanks for. Your worship bulletin will contain a green leaf of thanksgiving each week for you to share a blessing you are thankful for and place in the offering plate. We will share some of the blessings in worship and visually connect them to an ever growing vine of interconnectedness. The leaders of All Saints' hope the growing display of our abundant blessing moves us to recognize more and more the many ways we are blessed.

Planning Ahead

We will meet each week (with some exceptions), from 4:00-5:30pm in the Gathering Space at FCCW, 115 S. Main St. We will spend a few weeks on each book that we read. To start, we have a chosen an award-winning book, also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize by a journalist for the The Atlantic. It is written in memoir style, as letters to his teenaged son, reflecting on the issues of race in America. The Wolfeboro Public Library has several copies available. All are welcome!
