Lovejoy HS News 08 14 17

Parents and Guardians,
One week and counting! Monday, August 21st is the first day of the 2017-18 school year, and our LHS staff is excitedly preparing for your student's arrival. There are several dates and items that you and your student will want to know. I have included them in the email below but want to remind you that you can also reach us at 469-742-8700 with any questions you may have. I want to specifically highlight the 9th Grade and New Student Parent Meeting this Thursday, August 17th at 6:30 p.m. as it was incorrectly communicated in last week's edition of my email. I hope you and your student have a great final week of summer!

Chris Mayfield
Lovejoy High School
In an effort to be as efficient as possible, we prioritize our parent email as follows:
* New or time-sensitive topics of interest are at the top of the list
* Followed by the Calendar of Events and Activities
* Older items appear below the calendar until they become obsolete
If you would like to update your district/campus email preferences or change your email address, please click on the  Update Profile link at the footer of this email. You will receive an email from Constant Contact which will allow you to update your information and campus news preferences.

School Messenger Text Messaging
Lovejoy ISD is adding text messaging capability to SchoolMessenger, the system we use for phone calls and email communications for information such as school closings due to inclement weather. SchoolMessenger will be configured to send text messages to your wireless phone number(s), with your approval. Please confirm we have your accurate wireless phone number in the PowerSchool Parent Portal and then opt-in to participate by following the directions below.
In order to receive messages from Lovejoy ISD or your student's school via SMS text we must have your wireless number(s) in SchoolMessenger and receive an "Opt-In Confirmation" from your wireless device.
You can easily opt-in by simply sending "Y" (or "Yes"), via text message, to our SchoolMessenger Short Code number 67587.
The wireless number(s) you enter into the PowerSchool Parent Portal are updated nightly. If you update your wireless number, or add a new number, in the PowerSchool Parent Portal, the new number will automatically be sent an Opt-In message.

Bus Routes
The Lovejoy ISD Transportation Staff are working diligently to complete bus routes for the 2017-2018 school year. All routes are expected to be completed and available by noon on August 15, 2017. After 12:00 PM on August 15th, you may look up your bus number and bus stop times, by your physical street address at the following link:  Lovejoy ISD Bus Route Finder
If you no longer need bus service, please email with your student's name, student ID, and grade level.
Please be reminded, once routes have been updated and posted on August 15th, pickup and drop-off times are estimates. After the first two-weeks of school, ridership and traffic patterns will start to normalize.

School Supplies
Compiling a list of common items needed for Lovejoy High School is a bit difficult considering the diversity of classes that a typical student can take. Knowing that many of you may want to shop for school supplies before you receive the complete list from teachers on the 1st day of school, we invite you to click SUPPLIES to consult a spreadsheet that details what items are needed for each department. Please note that there are 5 tabs, one for each of the core subjects: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and LOTE.
