Dec 26, 2017      Finger Lakes Connected
Another Christmas has come and gone and I feel grateful for what I have. It is very easy to get off the grateful train and yearn for more than what we have. But, appreciating and verbalizing what we are grateful for daily is the key to getting back on track! Happy Almost 2018, Everyone! I'm grateful to have you and appreciate you! Subscribers, Advertisers, Friends and Family. THANK YOU!
Peace & Blue Skies, Donna Bennett

FLCC launches new, flexible hospitality programs

The state Education Department has approved new Finger Lakes Community College programming that provides more flexibility and choice for students pursuing careers in hospitality and tourism.

The state approved a new hospitality and tourism management associate, or two-year, degree along with three one-year certificates in hotel and resort management, tourism management and food and beverage management.

The certificates can be taken alone or as a track within the degree program. Students also have the option to start in one of the one-year certificate programs and then work toward the two-year degree.

"This new approach to educational programming allows younger students to explore options in hospitality and then specialize, using one of the three tracks," said Jamie Rotter, assistant professor of culinary arts. "It also provides an opportunity for people in the workforce to come back to school for just one year to upgrade their skills in one of these areas."

Lunch., Lose & Learn! By Dr. Ann Miller
What do you want in the New Year?
What do you want for your health?
What if you could realize your potential? Your ultimate capacity to become the best you ever?
Wouldn't you want to know how to do that?
That's what I am talking about! This talk is about more than weight loss and feeling good; it's about losing weight and achieving the healthiest 'you' this year and for the rest of your life.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that attempt weight loss and get sicker. The reason for a Doctor Supervised Weight Loss Program is to lose weight and get healthier. This is my specialization.
Join me and let's reach your goals together!

Stay Healthy this Season
You use hand sanitizers like crazy, yet you are stuffed up, achy, and coughing. Here's how to make a difference in 2018:
Routinely wipe down your phone. Though colds and flu are largely airborne, you can still transfer viruses from your fingers to your device and back again, according to a Stanford University study. (About 30% of viruses on the surface end up on your eyes, nose and mouth).
The fix for this is to clean your screen with a slightly water-dampened microfiber cloth, which removes 100% of the MRSA pathogens without damaging the phone. Then swab your phone case with a disinfecting wipe that contains alcohol. Doing this simple task will help you to stay healthy this winter season.

Mom-to-Mom Support Circle to Meet Dec. 28
UR Medicine Thompson Health has launched a new group called the Mom-to-Mom Support Circle based on the need for honesty and support amongst mothers struggling with a mood and/or anxiety disorder that occurs during pregnancy, or after the birth of a new baby. This includes mothers struggling with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Facilitated by Maureen Kellogg of Thompson's Social Work Department, Thompson Health Lactation Consultant/RN Courtney Phillips and a volunteer from the community, the group offers moms a "safe space" to be transparent about motherhood, mental health, and all the little things in between, providing opportunities to talk with others who have been through or are currently walking through this same season of life. The group's next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the OB Classroom at Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. For information, call (585) 396-6295.
