Hello friends,

Hope you had a terrific week and are taking some time to enjoy the Spring. We had a great time in Kentucky this past weekend at our nephew's bar mitzvah. It was so great to see all of the kids pick up where they left off. I'm so glad we all had quality time with everyone (especially busting it up on the dance floor and doing karaoke), and am so proud of my nephew who did beautifully at his service.

And I write this week's newsletter, I'm mentally preparing for my sons to leave for overnight camp for 7 weeks--that's right, 7 weeks! I know the time will fly, and I hope they have an amazing summer and make lasting memories with old and new friends. Of course I'll miss them terribly, but will take advantage of a slightly slower pace and fewer demands on my schedule. Then again, it's only 7 weeks and there's lots to do, so I better get started!!! I hope that whatever you're planning to do this summer, you'll have some time to do whatever it is you enjoy with those you enjoy being around!

Here's a roundup of what you'll find in today's ZIED GUIDE newsletter:

*On Twitter, @hellraiserhelto asked me how he could lower his triglycerides. I responded in a new Calorie Count post.

*If you're in the mood for a bacon sundae--you read that right--you might want to see how I really feel about it on Dr. Oz's You Beauty web site.

*If a strawberry salad is more your speed, you'll find a delicious recipe from a brand new book.

*See below to find out how you can enter to win a terrific prize pack!!!!

I hope you find time to #moveitorloseit this week --if you do, let me know how on Twitter or on Facebook.

Until next time,

Elisa

Here's a great recipe from the new book, The Plant-Powered Diet by my wonderful colleague, Sharon Palmer, RD. It packs in tons of nutrients and helps you meet your daily quota for fruit, vegetables, and lean protein. It's a great salad to enjoy solo or with your family or guests at a Summer outing.

***A GREAT GIVEAWAY***

It's so challenging to find a healthy breakfast that appeals to both parents and kids. Barbara's Bakery, the maker of several delicious cereals that have many virtues (they pack in a healthy dose of fiber without too much added sugar, and contain no hydrogenated oils or artificial flavors or additives) has kindly offered my blog readers a chance to be the one lucky winner of a Pass the Puffins Prize Pack. The prize pack includes three boxes of Puffins (Multigrain, Peanut Butter & Chocolate and Original), a canvas tote bag and a cute Puffin plushy.

To enter for a chance to win, post a comment on The ZIED GUIDE blog and tell me what your favorite breakfast is and why. Also include an email address so I can contact you if you are the winner. One winner will be chosen and announced by day's end on Sunday, June 24th.

About Me

I'm a registered dietitian, author, freelance writer, and speaker based in New York City. I live in Manhattan with my two sons, Spencer, 13, and Eli, 10 and my husband of 19 years, Brian. I feel very fortunate to have a career I'm extremely passionate about and to share what I learn with consumers in a variety of ways.

Each and every day, I try to infuse my passion for living a healthful, balanced and enjoyable life into my work. My goal is to feel empowered and to empower others--a working woman with three kids, a new mom, a stay-at-home mom, an empty nester, children, and teens, and families--to take steps to create their own nutritious and active lives.

Through my books, articles, blogs, television and video segments, print and online interviews, speaking engagements and spokesperson work, my goal has always been to translate information garnered from often times confusing scientific studies on food, nutrition, diet, fitness and health into practical, real world solutions consumers can apply and integrate into their own lives. I constantly read and stay in the loop about topics that resonate with consumers, and do my best to provide accurate, science-based information that makes sense so that consumers feel empowered to then take action to better their food and fitness habits to feel physically and mentally fit and optimize their health.
