Help individuals move their lives forward.

Did you know you have the superpower to help heal?

Luis, a Veteran who suffered an injury to his leg during combat, joined Back on My Feet in 2015 under the assumption that he would need to have surgery to repair the damage. But while running with Back on My Feet, his doctor quickly realized that the running was building muscle and Luis was experiencing less pain.  With this great news, Luis was more encouraged to deepen his involvement with Back on My Feet and found that there was much more to our program than just running.

Luis during his second TCS New York City Marathon.

Through his commitment to the morning runs, Luis earned the opportunity to join our Next Steps program which includes attending Accenture's Tools for Success workshops and Financial Literacy courses with TD Bank. Back on My Feet helped him navigate the available Veteran supportive housing and provided financial aid to purchase a bed and other housing essentials when he moved out of the shelter to a place he can call home. He continues to push himself forward, in both running and life: attending other Back on My Feet training and education classes, seeking out employment opportunities with our partners, and even took 21 minutes off his marathon finish time!

Before Back on My Feet, Luis' family was worried about him and what his future would hold. Now, they have joined him on his journey with Back on My Feet - his sister's family and his brother coming out with him on the morning runs. The Back on My Feet community hasn't just been healing for his injured leg but also for his family. As he finished his second marathon, his mother and sister were at the finish line, cheering him on, with tears of pride and joy in their eyes.

"Now my whole
family runs together!"
