Miss Widner's News
Dear Students, Parents, Grandparents, and Staff,
Well, I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. We had a wonderful weather weekend, and I pray that all our mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, and aunts had a restful, blessed Sunday. My mother lives with Jesus now so I took a trip to where she rests at the Catholic Cemetery. I had an opportunity to be with her and thank her for everything she has done for me! I encourage everyone to thank their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and godmothers daily for all they do. Remember to say you love them!
Yesterday, our 8th graders were at the Cathedral for the annual 8th grade Liturgy. All 8th graders from the Fort Wayne Catholic Schools were represented at this special liturgy. We were so proud of our students- "Well done, good and faithful servants." Speaking of doing well, on Monday, we recognized two 8th grade students for the ACNPSA (Allen County Non-Public School Association) Distinguished Graduate Award. Mercedes Gonzales and Christopher Svitek were selected by their middle school teachers and administration based on the following criteria: academics, extra-curricular, leadership, service, being a Christian Witness and role model. They will also be recognized at the 8th grade Awards Night on May 25th. In the electronic Wednesday Envelope, you will see a picture of Christopher and Mercedes. Congratulations!
Finally, in today's envelope, we have the Summer Reading for grades 5-8. This is connected with our Accelerated Reading Program. Please note this begins after June 2. In the final report card, you will receive this note again as well as a form that has your child's Lexile Information. The library will be open over the summer so students can come in to check out books and take AR tests!

Have a great week!

Congratulations Boys and Girls
Track Team
Congratulations to the boys and girls track teams!  Both teams competed in the City Championships on Saturday.  Both teams competed well and represented the school greatly.  The highest placement for the girls was the 4 by 100 meter relay team.  The team of Grace Allen, Alexis Miguel, Ella Bock and Hannah Hawkins, finished in 4th place.  Hannah also finished in 5th place in the 800 and 1600 meter runs.  Great job by all the girls!

On the boys team, Anthony Ventruella finished in first place in the 100, 200 and the long jump.  Each in a new school record!  Henry Verslype also placed first in the discus and shot put.  Both of those efforts are now new school records.   Anthony, Henry, Jack and Nathan Gosche also won the 4 by 100 meter relay.  Christopher Svitek placed second in the high jump and Jack Jacobs finished 2nd in the long jump.  The Pioneers finished first in 7 of the 12 events.  Congratulations to both teams on hard fought battles!"
