DOMA Suffers Body Blow In Landmark Decision
A U.S. appeals court in Boston on Thursday handed LGBT advocates a major victory, ruling that the Defense of Marriage Act's treatment of same-sex couples who are legally married under Massachusetts law is unconstitutional. "Congress' denial of federal benefits to same-sex couples lawfully married in Massachusetts has not been adequately supported by any permissible federal interest," wrote Judge Michael Boudin, one of two judges appointed by Republican presidents on the court's three-judge panel. The court postponed the effect of its ruling, writing that the final word on DOMA's constitutionality will most likely come from the U.S. Supreme Court. Michael J. Duncan Passed Away This Week
 Local lawyer, Long Time Colorado Springs Pride Partner, and LGBT straight ally, Michael Duncan passed away earlier this week. His memorial service will be held at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 730 N. Tejon St., on Wednesday, June 6th at 4:00 pm. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

cosPride First Time at Territory Days
A Report From Board Member Valdamar Archuleta
Last weekend Colorado Springs Pride was part of our cities biggest street festival for the very first time. It was an amazing experience! The people of of Colorado Springs gave our community a big hug.
Here's why I say that. Over 150,000 people were expected to attend and the overwhelming response to our presence at Territory Days was "thank you for being here". Over and over we had people walking by giving us a thumbs up, shouting "we love you", giving us donations (unprompted) and telling us how much they appreciated our presence. And this was not just from the LGBT community.
An organizer for various family festivals expressed to us that they want us to make a presence at their festivals. A rodeo also mentioned the same thing. There was even an event organizer for a run that said they would give us two free teams if we would participate in their event. It was incredible how well we were accepted by the crowds. People of all walks of life, ages, races and so forth continually coming up to us and expressing their feelings toward us. Everyone who volunteered at our booth had the same sentiments; it was like the city was embracing us.
Monday morning I went around to all, almost 200, vendors and invited them to our Pridefest and briefly talked to them about who we were. I didn't discriminate, I went to everyone. And all but two vendors were VERY nice and had nothing but good things to share with us. And I have an idea the two that were cranky were just tired, it was the end of a long weekend and honestly they weren't all that bad.
Looking back on the event and the great response and wonderful outcome of being at this event has shown me two things. First of all our City despite its reputation is ready to welcome and embrace diversity, culture and our LGBT community. Second of all we need to get out there and give them the opportunity to embrace us. Looking ahead I know you will see a lot more of us!

The mortgage insurance premiums are being cut dramatically to only a fraction of what is usually charged on a refinance. Call On Government To Kill Gays
Pastor Uses Bible To Defend Call On Government To Kill Gays
Curtis Knapp, the Kansas pastor who Sunday called on the government to kill all gay people, and lamented that it would not, says he is not ashamed and just preaching scripture. As The New Civil Rights Movement reported earlier today, Pastor Knapp on Sunday told parishioners at his New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kansas, the government has the power to kill all gay people. "You got a better idea? A better idea than God?," Knapp asked. The sermon was titled, "Homosexuality and the Need for National Revival."

Transgender Family Support Group
Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month.
This is a support group specifically for family members and friends of Transgender people.
We will have a licensed therapist to facilitate and provide structure for this support group.
This is a safe place to speak freely and confidentially. We will discuss our fears and concerns about loving and living with someone who is Transgender. Whether you're loved one is questioning, "In the closet" or transitioning or anywhere on the gender identity spectrum, we will share experiences and encouragement.
To ensure open dialogue, we are asking that TG people not attend the family only meeting. There is a waiting area if needed.
This is free to all who attend.

We have a discussion about one book each month.
Books are a mix of fiction and non-fiction. Most are written by or are about womyn. Some have lesbian characters or are typical lesbian titles, but most are not. New members are always welcome - just drop in.
