This Weekend at Hope:
Countdown to Christmas
Coming Soon!| Isaiah 7:13-14
Dear Hope Family,
We live in an uncertain world. Lately, the darkness somehow seems to be swelling, and the givens we used to take for granted no longer hold.
As if our personal sorrows that come and go aren't tough enough, the news of the day shakes the foundations upon which we used to depend. North Korea now has missiles that can reach American soil. Political divisiveness crowds out diplomacy (and even dominates late night comedy shows). Twitter fights make headline news, and objective journalism is fast becoming an endangered species. A growing line of powerful men who lived as cultural icons for years turn out to be perpetrators of sexual harassment, breaking our hearts for their victims, awakening the world to the injustice too many women face in the workplace, and reminding us that darkness can't hide forever (which is ultimately good news).
Still, waiting for light to break through this current darkness can try our patience. In times like this, it's good to remember the words of the prophets who bring hope ...
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord, "They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
Our future is (surprise!) actually quite brilliant and bright. This current darkness won't last. Eternal light from heaven will overwhelm it. Until then, we wait ... we trust ... and we hold on to hope. Along the way, we discover the faith-expanding wonder and mystery of hope-filled expectation ...
Welcome to the season of Advent! The light of the world, Jesus Christ, will be here soon! This is Advent ...  and  Christmas is coming!
