Genesis: A Binge-worthy Bible Series
"Arrested Development"
Good morning, Hope!

"Blessed are the eyes that see what you have seen. I tell you, many prophets and kings longed to see what you see, but they didn't see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn't hear it." Luke 10:23-24

We are blessed! Last September, in Hope's Annual Report, I wrote about the strong sensation felt by discerning folks all over Hope ... namely, that God was about to send a new wave of revival our way. Turns out, they were right!

Since then, teens have been flocking to Hope on Wednesday nights like never before for PowerLife (grades 6-8) and Ignition (grades 9-12). Kairos, our new college ministry in Ames, is running out of room at the Link (2712 Stange Rd., next door to Brick City Grill) on Wednesdays at 8:00 pm. There's also lots of excitement surrounding REVIVE for young adults, meeting Thursdays at 7:00 pm in the West Des Moines Chapel, with plans to start a second service at our Des Moines campus soon.

To celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, we were anointed with oil to mark the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives, and to signify the confirmation of our Christian faith. It was quite a holy sight to see, beautiful and powerful!

The Alpha Course (new sessions start Sunday at 12:30 pm, or Wednesday at 11:30 am) included a retreat in November where God took over the room, filling our hearts with the Holy Spirit, reminding us just how deep his love is for us (Ephesians 3:18).

Christmas Eve Services nearly filled Wells Fargo Arena (three times) as thousands gathered to celebrate our Savior's birth and let our lights shine! WHO Radio broadcast the 5:00 pm service live, and Van & Bonnie jokingly predicted on their morning show that "soon, Des Moines will become a suburb of Lutheran Church of Hope!" That's definitely not in our plans, but we do want to bring the light of God's love to all of our neighbors!

Then, this past weekend, as we kicked off a new year On a Mission from God with a Binge-Worthy Sermon Series, hundreds lined up for open baptisms at the end of each service. I was so moved by the stories that inspired people to come to the water, filled with joy for those who were affirming their baptism, and blown away by the high number of adults in my line who'd never been baptized before. God never ceases to amaze me!

The Holy Spirit is on the move, and we are blessed as a church to witness it!

What's next? Stay tuned ... this wave is still rising! Come and see for yourself! Surf's up!

PS- This weekend, we (Jeremy and I) will preach on Cain & Abel (Genesis 4) with a sermon called Arrested Development. Might have a couple clips from that creative and humorous show, and definitely will have a relevant Word from the Lord to share with you. Bring a Bible and your friends!
