This Weekend at Hope:
The Summer of Acts |  Women Who Led the Early Church | Acts 16:13-15

Hi Hope!

We're just a few days away from the start of one of the most phenomenal annual church events for children on the planet ... Vacation Bible School at Lutheran Church of Hope!

The Bible stories are lined up! The Worship Center has been transformed to match this year's Bible-based VBS theme of Splash: Soaked in God's Love! The music, skits, crafts, treats and games are ready to go! Over one thousand volunteers have been trained to teach, lead and pray for the 6,000+ children who are already registered (plus those who will be invited by their friends over the next two weeks)!

Underneath all the fun, there's a very serious mission (connect kids to God's love) and responsibility to ensure that Hope's VBS will be as safe as possible for every child who walks through our doors. We pay close attention to teacher/children ratios, background checks for volunteers, age-appropriate activities, safety policies and training.

Why go to all the trouble? We're competing for the hearts of kids, in direct competition with anything that pulls kids away from a living relationship with their Creator. I'm not interested in passively sitting back as a church while new generations fade away from God. It's time for churches to set aside petty debates and the worship of rituals to embrace our call from God to be a radical, life-saving, gospel-proclaiming, love-based alternative to rest of the world. Let's go, Hope!

On that note, we're also planning our first ever Hope Parenting Conference on Saturday, Aug. 19. Parenting is tough, particularly in these challenging and distracting times. As a church, we want to help equip parents in our community with the tools needed to effectively grow kids God's way. Stay tuned. More info to come as the conference date draws closer.

Peace,
Mike Housholder

PS- This weekend, our Summer of Acts sermon series continues with a closer look at Acts 16 with a message called Women Who Led the Early Church. You might be surprised to discover the Bible-based reasons churches like Hope encourage women to serve in every area of church leadership, including as pastors, congregational presidents, and senior leaders. Come and see!
