Welcome!
It's been an incredibly hectic and successful September. We just completed a major interior decorating and staging sponsorship of the Home of Distinction by Pecoy Signature Homes in Avon, CT. If you didn't get to tour this Designer Show House, enjoy our article that showcases the  sophisticated, elegant personality we envisioned for the home's decor. Many thanks to our partners -- Chapter One, Puritan, Puritan Juvenile Furniture, Calico Corners, Tommy Bahama and Lord & Taylor.

Now we begin the fall season. This month makes me grateful to live in New England and I'm in awe of the incredible colors around me. Color is a major player in home decor this year and as an interior decorator, I often advise my clients to look to nature for inspiration. This seasons colors are vibrant -- oranges, fiery reds,  lemon yellows and greens.

We created a living room "full of color" for the Home of Distinction using tangerine, fuchsia and plum. For the family room, we selected only one color to serve as our accent -- orange - which brought the room to life.  I encourage you to be daring this month and try a new color to update your decor -- whether new accent pillows, a gorgeous throw, new lamp shades, or an apothecary jar filled with colorful gourds.

Every room is an option for color and Nina Bender of Bender Showrooms, is our first ever contributor to The Style Report and shares color ideas for today's baths and kitchens.

We always welcome your thoughts and comments and hope to hear from you about the color you select to update your home this season. Enjoy!

Home of Distinction Showcases Current
Decor Trends

The Avon Home of Distinction welcomed hundreds of visitors throughout September, showcasing the latest decor and home building trends. This luxury home built by Pecoy Signature Homes, took stylish, sophisticated living out of the pages of a magazine and into a real home.

As the official interior decorator and home staging sponsor, the PJ & Company Home Styling team was inspired by the home's architectural beauty. We collaborated with furniture partners to select furnishings that reflected our vision of a luxurious home with stylish, comfortable spaces for living and entertaining.

As a designer show house we introduced visitors to the hottest styles of the season they may not typically see in traditional New England homes - bold color, Asian influences and Hollywood glamour and sophistication.

While the home is no longer on tour, the following photos  offer a glimpse into the home's interior and decor styles that will be trending into 2014. Consider adapting some of our style into your own home this season.

Grey is the new neutral in home decor and this grey menswear inspired sectional anchors the transitional look of this open family room. We added orange to brighten and energize the space with a modern leather studded chair, pillows, and artwork.

Centered around a Tibetan table, this dining room exudes Hollywood glamour. This room is about entertaining with luxe furnishings that add elegant style to any dinner party.  An eclectic mix of textures, mirrored furniture and finishes create a modern version of this dramatic style.

Our room of color - designed in collaboration with  Ron Smith of Chapter One - conveys our "out of the box" vision for this home. Bold color and pattern play dominate this space.

We wanted to showcase a modern style for a child's room and this new grey toned
crib set was the perfect choice. This wonderfu neutral can be dressed up for a boy or girl.
Modern Color For Kitchen and Baths
Contributed by Nina C. L. Bender of Bender Showrooms

Flip through any big glossy home magazine and what do you notice about the kitchen and bathroom advertisements? Clean, white, gray . . . boring. That's not to say a timeless Carrera marble  counter top with an under mount porcelain sink wouldn't make me jump for joy.  It sure would!  But times are changing and a splash of color is finding its way into the most important spaces of our homes.  If color hasn't made it into your home yet, check out some of these new designs that will brighten and refresh your kitchen or bath.

Jonathan Adler's line by Kohler is reinventing the kitchen sink with a modern, color  twist. Pictured below, this Palermo Blue on Whitehaven and Riverby sinks, also available in Piccadilly Yellow, Greenwich Green and Annapolis Navy, offers a pop of color that can coordinate with any palette or style.

For a classic, country kitchen consider adding a farm stand sink in any of the colors to infuse a new flare, while still maintaining the character and integrity your home already boasts.

Pictured: Kohler Palermo Blue on Whitehaven and Riverby kitchen sink also available in Piccadilly Yellow, Greenwich Green and Annapolis Navy.

Classic bathroom designs, such as a 1920's period bath full of black and white tile,  can be beautiful and timeless but a pop of color can offer an unexpected surprise.  New fixture options in the bathroom can also be fun and functional, without breaking the bank.

To get your color fix, swap out your old shower head for a Moxie. Haven't heard about her yet? Play any tune your heart desires from your wireless connected blue tooth device straight through to Kohler's Moxie, now available in five colors.

And don't worry about matching it to your existing fixtures.  Moxie's speaker packs the punch of color much like it does with sound and water pressure, but it's outer shell comes in the original white, polished chrome, oil-rubbed bronze and brushed nickel to keep a consistent look with what you've already got.

Color Swatch: Orange

Fall has officially arrived and orange is undoubtedly the color of the season. From the new studio

set of The Today Show, to our own Home of Distinction family room, orange is trending in home decor and there are many ways to introduce this color in your own home.

Orange decor and furnishings adds a vibrant energy but also creates a sense of warmth. These tips and photo inspiration will help you incorporate this seasons color into your home.

  • For a fresh fall look pair orange with beige, whites or yellows.
  • If you're ready to commit to orange for more than one season, choose one of the many paint colors available.
  • Earthy orange pairs perfectly with cobalt blues, greys, deep plums, and teals  and textures popular this season.
  • Orange looks great in bold fabrics and patterns including this seasons Ikat and animal prints.
  • If you're only ready to experiment with color, choose pieces that don't require a commitment - pillows and lampshades are a great choice.
