In every survey or study, Mississippi ranks at or near the very bottom in our financial literacy. But, we rank number one when it comes to our poverty rate. We can help to lift people out of poverty and set our State on a brighter path to economic growth by improving the financial literacy of Mississippians.
That’s why I created TEAM, or Treasurer’s Education About Money. It is a public-private partnership, supported by generous donations from financial institutions and community groups that brings resources and teacher training to Mississippi schools so that they can provide financial education to their students. In just its first two years, over 48,000 students in over 300 schools across the State have gotten financial education through TEAM. And, in their assessments, the students improved their financial awareness by over 90%.
