LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Thank You 2018 MABPAC Benefactors
The MAB Political Action Committee (MABPAC) hosted an annual fundraiser during the MAB Summer Conference on Mackinac Island. The reception was held at the Grand Hotel's Cupola Bar and included special guests Congressman Fred Upton (R-6) and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-12). State/Legislative Updates

Voting Ballot Proposal Inconclusive on Initial Signature Sample
The Elections Bureau in the Department of State has reviewed a random sample of 500 petition signatures for validity on the Promote the Vote constitutional amendment proposal. The bureau determined the sample was inconclusive and pulled a new sample of 3,300. In announcing that a second sample was pulled, the state set the deadline for challenging any signatures on the sample by 5 p.m., August 28. The state's ballot must be completed and certified by September 7.

Federal/Regulatory Updates

NAB Supports Proposal to Abolish Transmitter Site Posting Requirements
The National Association of Broadcasters expressed its support for the FCC proposal to eliminate a rule which says that stations must physically display their broadcast licenses and authorizations at transmitter site. The rule dates back to 1930. The FCC tentatively concluded that the requirements are now "redundant and obsolete," since information about station ownership and contact information is readily available and easily accessible to the public in stations' online public inspection files.
