Dear Members and Friends,

Along with the arrival of the month of November comes the season for recommitting to giving thanks and to practicing gratitude.  This is generally a time where we count our blessings in our lives, reconnect with family and friends, and examine how well we are staying focused on the most important priorities in our lives.  Spending quality time with our family and friends (and pets!), practicing our religious or spiritual faith, appreciating our jobs that support our loved ones and ourselves, volunteering in our communities, these are all ways to show gratitude and to give thanks.  Additionally, I believe that tending to the physical health of ourselves and our loved ones is another important component of showing gratitude.  In the words of Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh, "Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude to the whole cosmos--the trees, the clouds, everything."  When we keep our bodies healthy, we are subsequently empowered to engage in all aspects of the world around us with focus, energy and positivity.  Our tanks are full, and our engines are ready to roll.  This is the most important part of committing to a healthy lifestyle.  When our goals are shallow and aesthetic, staying motivated to keep up with our workouts can be a challenge.  However, when our health and wellness goals are entrenched in a deeper purpose and sense of gratitude, staying committed is easy.  Remember to maintain a regular exercise schedule, as tending to our health and wellness is truly a way to give thanks to the universe for this life we live.

With Health and Happiness,

Melissa O'Toole

The Richmond Racquet League is the metro area's oldest interclub men's tennis league, and the  MAC   Yaks  captured the Ram Division Championship in July with a 9-1 record that included three 4-3 wins!

USTA Flex League Tournament
The first annual USTA FLEX End of Season event was a lot
of fun, and all players enjoyed the t-shirts and tournament awa rds.  Metro Richmond FLEX was excited to introduce players to the  tennis environment at MAC.  Acknowledgements to Stephanie (Metro Richmond FLEX associate coordinator), Casey for the donations toward prizes,  Helen Alli for her contributions, and MAC for hosting the tournament. We look forward to another exciting event in 2018!

Serving for Charity
Early in the morning of Sunday, October 22, News Channel 12 predicted a 10 out of 10 day on the Comfort Index. When the day was over and the last point had been played in Serving For Charity, we were all grateful that the prediction came true.

This past Sunday MAC hosted an express tennis tournament to benefit International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).  The mixed doubles, round robin tournament grew out of a partnership between the Community Outreach Committee of Saints Constantine, Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral and MAC. 12 teams competed and over $2,000 was raised to support the life enriching work of IOCC in the United States and across the globe.

Thanks to all of our sponsors and to Nick's Produce  for supplying the drinks  for the day. Of the 12 teams who participated in the tournament, 2 played the equivalent of a 5 set match on the green clay of Midlothian. Special congratulations to Thomas Clark and Rochelle Preston for their appearance in the finals versus Zack Pettit and Mary Church. Both teams played well, but Zach and Mary came away with the championship certificates, a free lesson with Sonny Kierulf and Under Armor gear.  Thank you Sonny and Dick's Sporting Goods for such wonderful  prizes for our top 2 teams.

MAC House Rules
Please visit our website and review the MAC House Rules as several policies have been revised.  In the tennis department you will notice changes.  Specifically under the winter rules, Gold individual members may book 2 indoor courts per week, 2 days in advance from 12/1-3/31 annually.  (Couple and Family memberships may book 4 courts per week.)  Everyone, may reserve additional courts after 7a the day of or the day before, if a court is available but only 2 indoor courts, 2 days in advance.
If you have questions regarding any tennis policy, please contact Sandra Mason via tennismembers@macrichmond.com.
