MAKE A MOVIE LIKE SPIKE Invitation from Robert Carlyle
Little Plow Films

Dear Friend,

As a proud patron of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, I am honored to personally invite you to attend MAKE A MOVIE LIKE SPIKE, a film that has moved me incredibly as an artist, a man and a citizen of the world.

A beautifully honest film that speaks to youth in their own language, this is a film that explores and gives insight into a world that people think they know, but really know nothing of. With a street level view of Los Angeles serving as a backdrop, the tale of two Marines, their dreams and their subsequent reality is both poignant and beautifully observed.

This is Jamil's debut as a director and writer and he and his team have achieved greatness working within a budget of 40k.

This is an amazing achievement, a tremendous example to all young filmmakers that nothing is more valuable than story. I can think of no better forum than the esteemed Edinburgh International Film Festival to showcase this new talent and serve as a platform for other emerging international artists. The angst of youth and urgency of now is captured beautifully and elegantly in this film that represents the new age of cinema.

EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTS

Q&AS FOR BOTH PUBLIC SCREENINGS.

"'Make a Movie Like Spike" is a wonderful addition to the 65th Edinburgh International Film Festival programme, and we look forward to welcoming Director Jamil Walker Smith to town. As a film which is brimming with warmth and humanity, we have no doubt that audiences will be seduced by its charm and fall for the loveable nature of the protagonist."

- James Mullighan, EIFF Director

Luis and Ronald, two best friends from LA, film their last 36 hours before shipping off to Afghanistan. Luis wants to be a filmmaker and Ronald wants to travel the world and raise a family. With Luis' video camera, they capture their friends, family members and favourite places - to remember who they are and where they come from. In their darkest hour, they document the final moments of their journey home, and soon realise that their dreams and promises of a new life mean nothing in a place called War.
