Daylight savings time is now upon us, which means the peak leasing season is just around the corner. This winter we have had more than our fair share of snow accumulation across all of our regions. I would like to take the time to thank all of the amazing team members that are working tireless hours to keep our communities looking perfect. A special thank you goes out to all of the incredible maintenance teams that demonstrated our core value "teamwork" during the four different snow storms. Your hard work and dedication to our residents and communities never goes unnoticed. I look forward to seeing everyone as the warm weather approaches.

Did you know...The IT infrastructure was built in Charles Mixer's GARAGE!

 

Stephanie: "So what's the story of you building the IT infrastructure in your garage?"

 

Charles: "When I teamed back up with TFJG in February 2013, we were all working out of a temporary location. We had a few months until the office would be finished and the entire infrastructure needed to be ready for the move into the new building.

 

I contacted the local IT vendors to get price quotes. After evaluating the dates of completion and the massive costs from them I decided it was best to just do it myself. The only problem was that we had no space for staging and configuring in this temporary office. I thought for a couple days about what I was going to do.

 

I met with the owners and I mentioned that I could save the company money and deliver the product on time by doing it myself. I just needed a staging area and the only place I could think of doing it was in my garage.

 

Once approved, the fun began. The UPS guy hated me. Every day new packages being delivered and dollied into my garage. It was a sky scraper of boxes."

Charles: "I literally designed, configured, and assembled a cutting edge IT infrastructure in my garage within 2 months. It was incredible."

2014 HRAC Ace Awards  

The Hampton Roads Apartment Association hosted the 2nd Annual ACE Awards at the Norfolk Marriott Waterside on Thursday evening, February 27th.  This prestigious awards program, much like it's counterpart in Richmond, is a highly sought after event that features an evening of dinner, awards and networking with a record breaking 501 attendees present.  There are 26 award categories comprised of community, team and individual nominations.  This year, The Franklin Johnston Group Hampton Roads communities were up for a remarkable 35 award nominations.

A Birthday Surprise
Gloria Harrison, Business Manager at the corporate office, is in many ways the heart and soul of our company. She multitasks better than anyone and no matter how many projects she is working on; she always has a big smile and a positive attitude. This year, for her birthday, she got a little extra surprise with a decorated office in the theme of "Queen-Bee!"
    
I Love My Job!

Laura Ayers, Community Manager at Independence Square in Portsmouth, VA, fell in love with the "I love My Job" T-shirts at Texas Roadhouse, a national chain steak restaurant. She decided to purchase one for her and her team member, Margaret. Laura is passionate about our company because she believes "we hire the best, and we all seem to really love where we work, honestly." Laura has hopes of re-creating this shirt with the FJG logo and sharing them with everyone.
