Safety Training Topic of the Month: Lock-out / Tag-out

Lock-out / Tag-out
Prepared by MCASF Safety Committee Member Dave Lockhart

Top three tips / talking points you should know:
  1. Energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal, or other sources in machines and equipment can be hazardous to employees. During the servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment, the unexpected startup or release of stored energy can result in serious injury or death to workers.
  2. Employers must train their employees and provide proper equipment to protect their employees from energy sources. This includes, but is not limited to, hydraulic and stored energy.

 SFACA MEETING:
Legalization of marijuana: Know your rights as an employer

In 2016, Florida voters passed Amendment 2 to permit certain eligible patients to use medical marijuana without fear of prosecution. The passage is troublesome for
employers, however, as it leaves open some very basic questions about whether and to what extent the use of the drug by applicants and employees will need to be accommodated.
