In case you missed it last week:
MCASF announces our 2017 Monthly Safety Spotlight column

MCASF Safety Committee Chairman Dave Lockhart (Poole & Kent) announces that the Committee has developed a new member outreach program to assist contractors and promote safety among employees. As part of the initiative, the Committee has prepared a list of key safety issues impacting our industry. We'll spotlight one issue each month and provide you with some concise, helpful information you can immediately adopt into your Safety Training Program. If you have follow up questions, please contact MCASF and a member of the Committee will gladly help. We hope this new program is helpful, and will help us collectively work toward our goal of zero accidents, so that all employees return home safely each day.
SAFETY TRAINING TOPIC OF THE MONTH:
GHS
Prepared by MCASF Safety Committee Member Dave Lockhart

Top three tips / talking points you should know:
  1. Employees have the right to know the health effects of the materials and chemicals they work with.
  2. Employers must train their employees about this information and make it available when an employee asks for it.
  3. In 2012, OSHA changed the Hazard Communication Standard to make it easier to understand the exposures. This new requirement means that hazards are labeled the same way around the world. This is referred to as the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of classifying and labeling chemicals.
