It's not too late to register for MSCA's Conference in Boca!
Don't miss this chance to attend MSCA's EXCELLENT conference -- which specifically addresses issues faced by service-oriented contractors -- right here in south Florida. MCASF will reimburse 75% of the MSCA Conference registration fee for up to two individuals employed by each MCASF Contractor Member firm. In order to be eligible for the reimbursement, attendees must 1) be employed by a MCASF Contractor Member in good standing 2) attend the conference. Reimbursement is based upon 75% of the early bird rate of $1,200, OR the First Timer rate of $1,175, and will be issued following the conference. Local Union 725 and MCASF Trustees Consult Prominent Expert
in Navigating Compliance with the Affordable Care Act
The Department of Treasury recently announced their decision to delay the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act's (PPACA) employer mandate & related reporting requirements until 2015. What does this mean? How does it impact you? MCASF is here to help.
As part of the Association's 2014 continuing educational program, MCASF will provide expert guidance to our members on the impact of PPACA with regards to our members' non-bargaining unit employees, such as office staff and management team members. More information on presentations will be provided this fall.
On a far larger scale, Local Union 725 and MCASF trustees serving on the Health & Welfare Trust Fund have sent a clear message that obtaining expert guidance in navigating compliance with PPACA is a top priority. The Health & Welfare Board of Trustees are working diligently to address PPACA-related issues that impact the fund. To that end, the trustees have taken additional steps to ensure that expert guidance is in place, resulting in the recent engagement of Horizon Actuarial Services, LLC. led by Aruna Vohra, who is their Health Care Practice Leader.
In April of this year, Aruna was the health care expert that national MCAA turned to when testifying before the IRS about the employment and benefits relationship of workers in the multiemployer system, and how that relationship warrants unique treatment as compared with employees covered (or not) by single employers. National MSCA has partnered with Convoy of Hope ( www.convoyofhope.org) since 2010 in delivering food to families in cities where the association holds its annual conference. Contractors, UA members and vendors across the country have donated over $90,000 in recent years, which provided food to families in need across the nation.
Since the MSCA Conference is held in South Florida this year, MCASF of South Florida is asking you, our members and industry friends, to help us meet our goal of collecting $5,000 to
donate to this very worthwhile charity.

At a MCASF member meeting earlier this year, Pete Chaney, MCAA's Director of Safety and Health, talked with our members about the new Global Harmonized System (GHS) for classifying chemicals, and the required training that must be in place by December 1 of this year. Under Pete's direction, MCAA has prepared a complete set of training tools to help you comply with GHS standards.
