A WORD FROM REV. J. DWAYNE JOHNSON
      A NEW BEGINNING

"A new beginning! We must learn to live each day, each hour, yes, each minute as a new beginning, as a new opportunity to make everything new. Imagine that we could live each moment as a moment pregnant with new life. Imagine that we could live each day as a day full of promises. Imagine that we could walk through the new year always listening to a voice saying to us:  'I have a gift for you and can't wait for you to see it!' Imagine."

                ~ Henri Nouwen

Merry Christmas!  As I write this it is Christmas Day and I'm thinking about what a gift you are.  I am so grateful for how the members and friends of MCCDC are a gift to our neighborhood and community all through the year.  Last night at our Christmas Eve service it was a blessing to worship with a full house, decked out in the glorious colors of this season.  Some rows were filled with entire families here for the holidays.  It was also a joy to welcome some of our new neighbors for the first time.

The birth of Jesus was a new beginning, a thought to carry us through the rest of 2013 and into the new year.  With the birth of Jesus came new hope, new ideas, new opportunities, new healings, new openings to spiritual wholeness.  Indeed, the birth of Jesus  was "good news of great joy for all people" that remains good news for today.

This Sunday, plan to be at MCCDC for Christmas Worship at 9am and 11am as part of the Twelve Days of Christmas.  Great music will include such Christmas favorites as "Joy to the World" and "Hark!  the Herald Angels Sing."   It is my privilege this Sunday to share the pulpit with Tom Simmons who has been serving MCCDC faithfully as our Ministry Intern.  I look forward to his reflections as he opens himself to bring scripture to life.

As we continue to celebrate this season and time with family and friends, may we experience the joy of laughter and the glory of Christmas carols.  And. ..may we go deep into the silent night to "listen to that voice, and with every choice open a little more to discover the new life hidden in the moment, waiting eagerly to be born" (Henri Nouwen).    Christmas blessings to you and yours!

Faithfully,

Rev. Dwayne

HELP US FINISH 2013 STRONG!
It's that time of year--end of year giving and tax season is right around the corner. We have worked hard this year to balance our revenue and expenses, while taking on new initiatives, the hiring of Rev. Cathy Alexander, and major refinancing of church property, the MCCDC Board of Directors would like you to consider a year-end gift to the church. You should have received a mailing from the church with a giving envelope enclosed. You can also give your year-end gift online at www.mccdc.com/donate.
