"The Names of God"
Elementary Spiritual Emphasis Week 2017

The theme for the Elementary Spiritual Emphasis Week was "What's in a Name?" All week long the students heard about many different names for God and His Son Jesus. The worship song, "What a Beautiful Name" by Hillsong Worship has become a special one to students and staff as it reminds us, from the creation story to the Easter story, that the name of Jesus is the ONLY name given by God to man by which we are saved. Isaiah and Paul, with their specially chosen names, were also key characters this week.

Our Multi-Purpose Room became a quiet, reflective, prayer space where classes were able to pray and journal. Our week ended with helping the students know what it means to believe in Jesus, the Messiah and Savior - and receive the gift of salvation. If a child prayed this prayer for the first time, we encouraged them to celebrate by telling their family and recording the date in their Bible. Enjoy the link to photos and a video to see a snapshot of the week.

Family Easter Ideas: Talk about how the names in your family were chosen. Ask your child what he or she took home from their Journey with Jesus this week. Does he or she have a favorite name for Jesus? Listen to the song, "What a Beautiful Name" by Hillsong Worship together as you prepare as a family for Good Friday and Easter.

Dear Elementary Parents,

Our Elementary Grandparents & Special Friend Day will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. This event is a much loved tradition at Mariners Christian School. It is a time when elementary students (TK-5th grade) may invite grandparents or another adult who plays a special role in his or her life to visit our campus. The day begins in the auditorium with a special elementary program. Following the program, the guests will meet the students in their classrooms for campus tours.

Enclosed is an electronic copy of the invitation for you to FORWARD (or print and hand deliver) to your elementary student's guests. If you would like a printed color copy of the invitation to hand-deliver, please stop by the reception desk and pick one up. Please remind your guests to RSVP by May 8th at the link provided on the invitation or please RSVP for them. Thank you.

#MCS30 Stories for 30 Years
MCS has been impacting young lives for 3 decades through its mission of "building a firm foundation through Christ-centered education." Our history is filled with stories of God's goodness! To commemorate this significant milestone, we are featuring 30 written and video stories that we hope inspire our school community to celebrate our 30th year in a fantastic way. In fact, we hope it will inspire other stories to be told that we're not even aware of!

We invite students, families, alumni, teachers, grandparents, founders, and other friends to join in the 30th year celebration of "God's stories" in one of two ways:
  1. #MCS30: If you have a story to share, share it out on social media using #MCS30 - tag us on Facebook and Twitter so we know!
  2. Submit your story on our 30 Stories for 30 Years site to be considered as a feature.
Here is our first of 30 stories featuring one of our talented Middle School students, Miss Ava McLarand:

Spoken Word Recap of the Week
from MCS Staff

We asked for the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of our students this week, and God did what only He can do...immeasurably more that we could EVER ask or imagine! This week our students fully embraced what it means to live a life with More of the Holy Spirit, More Transformation, More Community, More Obedience, and More Joy. The students encountered God in a real way this week through experiencing the Holy Spirit breaking down walls, bringing conviction, healing, peace, freedom, and joy!

We asked for MORE...and God delivered MORE than we could ever imagine!

Student Success Center
Did you know the middle school has a Student Success Center? The goal of SSC is to support students in achieving academic goals by providing homework help and strengthening skills in organization, time management, and test preparation. We want to teach students strategies that will help them achieve success in both their academic careers and for the rest of their lives beyond MCS. Students who want to take advantage of this tremendous resource can stop by the SSC located upstairs next to the administration office to meet Mrs. Willis, receive more information, and sign up for the after school help. The SSC is open to students during the following times:
  • Monday: 3:00-4:00
  • Tuesday: 3:00-4:00
  • Thursday-3:00-3:30
To provide the best support, it is imperative students sign up prior to attending. We are excited to provide this great resource to our students and are thrilled to work with students throughout the year!
