MCS
Heroes of the Week

Victoria Boler

Congratulations to this week's Heroes Rick and Victoria! We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.

A Note to Rick Contreras, Facilities Manager
Rick is an integral part of our MCS Community. He works tirelessly to ensure our campus runs smoothly and safely every day. He is an amazing example of a servant leader, as it is laid out in the Bible. Every day Rick models the words in Colossians 3:23 "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people."

During Evening of Honor setup, Rick stayed well beyond his contracted hours to share his expert skills on scissor lift, as he patiently and cautiously pulled together the most intricate details for the decor. His fingerprints were everywhere on that event, and he is a major part of why the evening was so successful. We are so blessed to have him at MCS. For all these reasons and more...HE IS OUR HERO!!!

A Note to Victoria Boler, General Music Teacher:
We have been so impressed with the way you have invested into the overall elementary program this year. Your heart to serve others and invest in students has been clearly evident." Heart - The 5th Grade Team

Pastors Breakfast & Chapel April 23rd (please share)
Our Pastors Chapel has become a special tradition here at Mariners Christian School. Each year we invite pastors from the churches our MCS families attend to come and enjoy a breakfast together, and then worship with our students in chapel... click for the continuation of the letter from Mrs. Celek.  A hard copy of this letter along with an invitation for your student to share with his/her pastor or leader was sent home today with each child.  Please look for it and pass the invitation along as appropriate. Thank you!

We have also sent a letter and invitation to our local pastors but we do encourage you to have your student hand-deliver the invitation that was sent home to their pastor or leader. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Celek at [email protected].

Elementary Chapel
Our guest speaker for the 1st-3rd grade chapel was Mrs. Wendy Machovsky, Children's Pastor at Grace Fellowship Church. She was introduced and welcomed by Josiah and Sophia Cowell, MCS 5th grade students.

Using the book, Baby Wren and the Great Gift by Sally Lloyd-Jones, Mrs. Machovsky challenged us in the themes of joy leading to thankfulness, and finding beauty in God's Word, His world and the people around us.

In addition, we are always so blessed to be led in worship by Mr. Lucas, Dr. Um, and Mrs. Boler.

Middle School Chapel Recap
We kicked off Chapel by celebrating our Royal Recognition winners from last month. Congratulations to all of our recipients! Opening and closing our time of worship was one of our middle school worship teams, who ushered us in a powerful way into His Presence.

Our Chapel speaker this week was none other than an MCS favorite, Daniel Orduรฑa! We know when this man comes to speak, the presence of God is felt and the Holy Spirit moves. This week Daniel spoke on living lives that scream the gospel, but that doesn't necessarily mean with our words. When our lives show proof that we know the Savior, we don't always have to use our words. It's evident in the way we treat people, the words we choose, the decisions we make. All of that reveals a life changed for Jesus!

He encouraged us to let his glory shine through us, and chase after the things of God even more, so that He may be magnified! What an encouragement!

Evening of Honor
For our 7th and 8th graders, the 2018 Evening of Honor was a night under the "Bright Lights of the Big City" that they will remember forever! From start to finish, their evening was filled with excitement, fun, laughter, and dancing! The students took every opportunity to celebrate and honor their school, their classmates, and God.

A special thank you to the Evening of Honor Committee of moms who dedicated countless hours and tireless work into making this evening special! We would also like to thank all of the moms who helped in the transformation of the auditorium into a scene that felt like we were in the big city on a clear and calm evening. We couldn't have done it without you! All photos taken from the event will be posted on a Schoology page for your viewing next week.

Catapult Chaos
This is one of the reasons we love MCS!  In our Homeroom Competition on Monday, it wasn't just the students putting it all on the line...their teachers were out there in the thick of things right next to them.  The name of the game was Catapult Chaos, aptly named for the pudding that was catapulted at the teacher if the opposing homeroom caught one of the food items in their mouth.  It was 90 seconds of sheer entertainment, as talented students tried to catch marshmallows, cheese balls, powdered donuts, and meatballs in their mouths, all while the pudding was flying! Congratulations to Mrs. Thurston's Homeroom who took first place with 42 points!  Please enjoy these photos of Catapult Chaos!

Chapman University Holocaust Art & Writing Contest
Congratulations to Alexa Raack, Mary Callaghan, and Logan Bray who represented MCS at the annual Chapman University Holocaust Art and Writing contest. This year's theme was "Messengers of Memory" which presented challenge that we always much remember the atrocities of the Holocaust so that history never repeats. One of the amazing honors of the day was meeting Holocaust survivors who shared their stories of survival and inspired us all to always hold on to hope!

Spring Dress Code Reminders
It's springtime - flowers are growing, trees are growing, and your children are growing! Unfortunately, their uniforms can't grow with them, which means the uniform that fit your student at the beginning of the year may no longer fit appropriately now. Please take a few moments this week with your student to make sure their uniforms fit well and still follow middle school dress code guidelines. As a reminder, skirt hemlines should be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee, and pants must be full-length; no folded, shortened, or frayed pant legs. If you have any questions about uniform or dress code guidelines or how these policies are implemented, follow this link to the MS Uniform Guidelines page here, see our MS Uniform Reminders page here, or contact Mrs. Niles at [email protected].

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
"May your joys be as deep as the oceans. Your troubles as light as its foam.
And may you find sweet peace of mind. Where ever you may roam." Irish Blessing

Middle School March 20th Share 2 Wear Day (Book Drive)
Middle School is holding a 1-day Book Drive for our March Share2Wear. All middle school students who participate in our Share2Wear on Tuesday, March 20th, must bring at least 1 new or gently used book to "share" with an underprivileged community.  Students are highly encouraged to bring more than one book to donate, if they have access to books they no longer use.  These books will be shared amongst our local communities and, if we get a great response, we will also be able to send some to communities in parts of Texas who lost everything due to the recent hurricanes.

Any student who "shares" at least 1 book, will be able to "wear" attire based the theme that his/her U-Group selected at lunch on Thursday!  Ask your child his/her U-Group #, then check the below list (or click here) to see what theme he or she will be dressing up in on Tuesday, when they come with their book(s) to share for the 1-day Book Drive!!  The top 3 U-Groups will be awarded with Raising Canes or In N Out lunch delivered to them one day next week!  Our goal is to bring the joy of stories, adventure, and knowledge to those with limited access to books for any variety of reasons.  We would love to have 100% participation from our middle school students.  Please join us in our cause to make a difference in our community!
