God Bless Our Veterans & Grandparents

Close to 200 veterans and grandparents were honored at today's MCS Salute to Veterans with a Red White and Blue Breakfast followed by a special program with our student body. Our guest speaker was Jack Linscott, U.S. Navy, WWII Veteran. We were joined by Toni Bradley from Freedom Dogs and special guest Walter's Honor. Presentation of our proceeds from the Pancake Breakfast was made to the Lyon Air Museum.  For more details about the day, visit our website at this link Thank you for sharing your student's Grandparents and Veterans with us.  It is always an honor for us to spend the morning with them.

MCS Dad Dwight Hanson Receives
Dr. Ben Friedman Leadership Award

During today's Salute to Veterans, Mariners Christian School honored MCS Dad and U.S. Marine Corps, Ret. Dwight Hanson with the Dr. Ben Friedman Leadership Award.

Mr. Hanson has been an enthusiastic and faithful contributor to our Veterans Day celebrations over the years and has introduced MCS to many amazing veterans from our local area. Dwight  has lovingly set an example to our students of how to greet and show appreciation to veterans or active duty military.

Enjoy this collage of photos of Mr. Hanson from past and present MCS Veterans Day events.
Thank You for Supporting our Veterans
at the Pancake Breakfast

Our 7th annual pancake breakfast raised more for veterans than any prior year - thank you to all who made it a success! We appreciate those who loaned or donated kitchen items, those who came to help serve that morning, and those who came to enjoy breakfast.

Through generous donations from our MCS families on Wednesday morning, we raised $2,230 for our veterans. The check was given to Lyon Air Museum during our Veterans Day Assembly this morning. With that money, MCS will adopt one of Lyon Air Museum's war planes call the "Willa Dean", and will keep this war plane in good flying condition so that she can provide flights for WWII and Korean War vets.

Thank you for helping us bless those who have sacrificed for our freedom.

Following are the guidelines for when your child should be kept home or will be sent home:

  • Vomiting or Diarrhea: When there has been vomiting or diarrhea the child must be free from these symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Respiratory Illness: If your child as significant symptoms of respiratory illness (thick colored mucus from eyes or nose, serious cough, wheezing, runny eyes or crusty eyes, sore throat, or earache) we will expect you to keep your child home.

November Family CommUNITY Connection

Happy November, MCS Families!

This month will hopefully bring us changing leaves, crisp Autumn air, and time gathered around the Thanksgiving table with family and friends.   Recent research reveals the following:

Question: How often do we ouch our phones?
Answer: Oh, only about 2, 617 times a day.

A pretty staggering number, right? Here is the reality check - although we were made by God with peace in mind, there are many forces that war against that. Digital noise is just one of them. And, although peace is defined as a noun, it seems it will take ACTION to cultivate it. See the attached newsletter for a suggested tool to help foster connection and create a bit of space for gratitude and prayer, which Philippians 4 says is the precursor to peace that guards our hearts.

Blessings,

A Legacy Morning For Moms & Dads
Thursday, December 15th

All MCS Moms & Dads are invited to join us for our first Legacy Morning of the 2016-17 school year. Join us for a panel discussion and Q & A with alumni students and parents, current parents, and voices from the church community on the topic of parenting in the present with the end in mind. RSVP on or before Monday, December 12th, by clicking here.

Legacy Events seek to provide the space for conversations and connection between alumni parents & students and current MCS parents. We recognize that one of our greatest strengths is our alumni parent community that has the gift of being one step ahead of where our current families are in the process of raising their children. It is an absolute gift to be able to hear from alumni parents whose children are now in high school, college, or even beyond the college years. Their insight and perspective is rich and offers courage to parents in the trenches of the elementary and middle school years. These events promote connection, authenticity, transparency and provide morsels of wisdom.

Questions, contact Ali Bray at [email protected].

Student Success Center

Did you know the middle school has a Student Success Center? The goal of SSC is to support students in achieving academic goals by providing homework help and strengthening skills in organization, time management, and test preparation. We want to teach students strategies that will help them achieve success in both their academic careers and for the rest of their lives beyond MCS. Students who want to take advantage of this tremendous resource can stop by the SSC located upstairs next to the administration office to meet Mrs. Willis, receive more information, and sign up for the after school help. The SSC is open to students during the following times:
  • Monday: 3:00-3:30
  • Tuesday: 3:00-3:30
  • Thursday-3:00-3:30
To provide the best support, it is imperative students sign up prior to attending. We are excited to provide this great resource to our students and are thrilled to work with students throughout the year!
