"Building a firm foundation through Christ-centered education"

"Give Thanks to the Lord - for He is good."

MCS Administration shows their thankfulness for faculty and staff with a traveling goodie cart this week. Thank you to the many parents who brought in yummy treats for Thanksgiving celebrations
throughout the school.

We are thankful for our MCS families and wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving week.
School resumes on November 28th.
Elementary Chapel - Give Thanks to God

During Elementary Chapel this week, Mr. Moore challenged the students to think about ways in which we can give thanks to God beyond telling Him through prayer. After hearing Colossians 3:15-17, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Mark 12 and 1 Corinthians 1:4, the students had many ideas.   These ideas lit up our strand of Christmas lights.

The students were encouraged to allow their actions toward all their peers to be a gift of thanks to God and to shine His "light" to the world.

"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17

Join us for a panel discussion and Q & A with alumni students and parents, and current parents who are in the trenches working with youth in education, high school administration, youth ministry and marriage & family therapy.

The topic is: "Raising Resilient & Successful Kids: parenting in the present with the end in mind"

Panel participants will include: current and alumni parents David O'Neil, Tim Bahadoor, Tami Thurston; alumni students Sarah (Mull) Parsons, Trevor Lawrence, and Robbie Boyer. We will also be welcoming back Matt Heim, from the Center for Individual and Family Therapy (CIFT).

RSVP on or before Monday, December 12th, by clicking here.

MCS Legacy Events seek to provide the space for conversations and connection between alumni parents & students and current MCS parents. We recognize that one of our greatest strengths is our alumni parent community that has the gift of being one step ahead of where our current families are in the process of raising their children. It is an absolute gift to be able to hear from alumni parents whose children are now in high school, college, or even beyond the college years. Their insight and perspective is rich and offers courage to parents in the trenches of the elementary and middle school years. These events promote connection, authenticity, transparency and provide morsels of wisdom.

Questions, contact Ali Bray at [email protected].

November Family CommUNITY Connection

Happy November, MCS Families!

This month will hopefully bring us changing leaves, crisp Autumn air, and time gathered around the Thanksgiving table with family and friends.   Recent research reveals the following:

Question: How often do we ouch our phones?
Answer: Oh, only about 2, 617 times a day.

A pretty staggering number, right? Here is the reality check - although we were made by God with peace in mind, there are many forces that war against that. Digital noise is just one of them. And, although peace is defined as a noun, it seems it will take ACTION to cultivate it. See the attached newsletter for a suggested tool to help foster connection and create a bit of space for gratitude and prayer, which Philippians 4 says is the precursor to peace that guards our hearts.

Blessings,

"Bless the Lord, O my soul"

The message was based on Psalm 103:2. Mrs. Bryant shared that gratitude isn't just a reaction to getting what we want; it's an attitude of consciously noticing things and showing appreciation to God.  She encouraged students to think thoughts of God, His greatness and power and love. Look for God's blessings and tell someone and thank God for His goodness as Psalm 103:2 encourages us to do.

Following the chapel, students prayed and prepared video clips for a new video for their friends in Gulu.

Student Success Center

Did you know the middle school has a Student Success Center? The goal of SSC is to support students in achieving academic goals by providing homework help and strengthening skills in organization, time management, and test preparation. We want to teach students strategies that will help them achieve success in both their academic careers and for the rest of their lives beyond MCS. Students who want to take advantage of this tremendous resource can stop by the SSC located upstairs next to the administration office to meet Mrs. Willis, receive more information, and sign up for the after school help. The SSC is open to students during the following times:
  • Monday: 3:00-3:30
  • Tuesday: 3:00-3:30
  • Thursday-3:00-3:30
To provide the best support, it is imperative students sign up prior to attending. We are excited to provide this great resource to our students and are thrilled to work with students throughout the year!
