GREETINGS FROM

DR. KIMBERLY J. SCHNEIDER, SUPERINTENDENT

Schneider Headshot
Excitement is building as we prepare our students to graduate from high school and pursue college and careers. During the hustle and bustle of the spring season, I find it important to pause and reflect on three significant accomplishments. First, we're proud to have the fourth, and largest to date, graduating class from the Health Science Academy. Twenty-seven outstanding students are on track to complete their high school program next month. One of the students even earned enough credits to obtain her associate degree before she receives her diploma! (More to come on this story.) Lastly, we honored Dr. Walter Brower for multiple decades of service as the chairperson of the General Advisory Committee. Dr. Brower is a well-known educator, admired by many for his dedication to the profession, and we wish him the best.

Chef John Moeller, former White House chef, author and entrepreneur, visited with the Baking and Dining Services students to demonstrate his most notable dessert, a flourless chocolate torte. In advance of the visit, the students prepped the ingredients and then Chef Moeller demonstrated the complete preparation and plating of the dessert. As a technical school graduate himself, the students enjoyed learning about his career path and current business venture. Click here to learn more about Chef Moeller's Book, Dining at the White House

Chef Scott Engle of Mercer County Technical Schools was selected as the New Jersey Educational Foundation's 2017 "Educator of the Year" by the NJ Restaurant and Hospitality Association. The 20-year teaching veteran with great dedication and creativity in teaching the ProStart curriculum, will represent the Garden State at the National Educational Excellence Awards in Chicago this May.  Chef Engle partnered with the U.S. Army to teach his students about quick thinking and how to work under pressure. With the help of the Army, students were challenged to make a 3-course meal using only MRE products and heat sources.  MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) is a 2,000-calorie food ration for soldiers who are in combat or do not have access to dining facilities   Read more.

Congrats to Rochelle Richardson for receiving a Woman of Achievement Award from the Mercer County Commission on the Status of Women. Rochelle Richardson is a Trenton resident who has served as a mentor to the post-secondary students at Mercer County Technical Schools' Health Careers Center for many years. Through her support, MCTS students and graduates are able to transition into the community better prepared to work in a demanding profession.
