MDSC Members, 

This has been a very important month for our priority bills. On June 8, MDSC assembled a panel to go before the Joint Judiciary Committee to testify on behalf of HB523 - An Act to Require National Background Checks. 

The compelling written and oral testimony presented by the MDSC and our advocacy partners (Disabled Persons Protection Commission, Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council and the Arc of MA) along with Honorary Board member, Rep. Tom Sannicandro, was the first step in the process of advocating for the bill this legislative session. 

With your support and the dedication of our Legislative Task Force, we can make a significant impact on the prevention of abuse by individuals with a prior criminal background who can now slip through the cracks if they have a criminal record outside of Massachusetts. 

We encourage all members to make calls now to members of the Judiciary Committee to express support of the bill.
