Maryland Young Republicans Oppose Proposed Toll Increases

The Maryland Young Republicans join the majority of all Marylanders who oppose the Maryland Transportation Authority's proposed toll hikes.

"Maryland's middle and working class families, particularly our state's young professionals, are struggling to make ends meet," said Maryland Young Republicans Chairman Brian Griffiths. "The Maryland Transportation Authority's proposed toll increases will disproportionately harm our state's rural areas, as well as have a crushing impact on our state's ability to attract the young professionals that are necessary to compete in a modern economy."

"Maryland's young professionals understand what it is like to try and live within a tight budget," Griffiths said. "It would be wise for Governor O'Malley and state government leaders in Annapolis to learn from the example set by these hardworking young professionals and start spending and living within our state's means. The lack of leadership on fiscal policy from Martin O'Malley and other Democrats across Maryland have created a climate that makes it difficult for young professional families to settle down here, robbing us of our next generation of Marylanders."

"We as the Maryland Young Republicans join our fellow Marylanders in opposing such a uncalled for, harmful, and irresponsible toll increase. Maryland can no longer compete on the national and global stage while we are saddled with such irresponsible leadership."

Critical to the growth of the Republican Party, the Young Republicans reach out to registered Republicans, 18 to 40 years of age, and provide them with better political knowledge and understanding of today's issues. Since its creation, the YRNF and its member groups have established themselves as the premier Republican grassroots organization in the nation, providing essential grassroots support for Republican candidates and conservative issues on the local, state and national level.
